Any info on Sony's new DVD Burner DRX-500UL, if any1 has dealt with or heard about this burner could they give me some feedback pls...

Hi m8. I'd recommend getting the new Defibrilator Smoke Detector Type DVD Burner. Has a built in Flagilator for extra power. Takes 15 DVD's at a time and at half the cost.

The sony is a great unit but in virtually every case I will tell you to go with an internal drive and not the external model as the external models can have some added complications not to mention they can send you broke with the difference in price. Sony has an internal version of this drive the dru500a (exact same specs) that runs about $350 and the external model that you are talking about runs somewhere between $450-$500 I believe. The Sony's support both DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW (these are competing formats incase you didn't know) and they are reported to be among the best. For PS2 applications I will steer you towards DVD-R since (provided you use the recommended brands of media) will have the highest compatibility on all versions of PS2 (except version#1 which don't support any recordable dvd media + or -). If you are looking for a cheaper avenue I would recommend the drive that I have which is the cendyne105(The exact same drive as the highly praised Pioneer105 but simply with a different label on the box) which supports 4x DVD-R/2x DVD-RW. This drive doesn't support the + formats but for what you are looking at you probably wouldn't miss it. Staples and officemax have specials on these right now for somewhere between $180-$200 + tax after in store discount and mail-in rebate. If you don't mind the slower burn speed you can pick up DVD-R media cheaper then any other format and the 4x discs are no more expensive than any other format either. For what you are looking for I would recommend the cendyne105 (Pioneer105) drive. Hope this helps
