I have norton and zone alarm on my PC . All well for a while . Cannot pin point exact time , but started recording dvdr so loads of encoding, also instaalled kazaa, winmx, grab it and similar programes.

Now two things happen.

I connect fine and can surf the web. I go to collect mail and have a mail error that the machine cannot find the server although all settings are fine. Then the machine drops the line.

I reconnect and the two screens on the toolbar appear showing i am connected, but i cannot surf as error 404 comes up all the time.

Sometimes i get this problem without visiting my mail account.

Any ideas - its driving me mad as it is intermittent.

Appreciate any help.

Not much info here Lawsy, we know that ZA is your firewall, which Norton program are you referring to? Have you tried disabling you firewall(s) to see if that's the problem? What kind of Internet connection are you using?

A bit more info.

I have 56k dial up from freeserve any time. It is just norton anti virus software.

I will try disabling firewall and report back.

I had this problem with a new AMD/XP based system that I'd added very little to...although I did add NA and ZA...

I had exactly the same problems - fixed by a re-boot - which frequently re-occured.

I ditched ZA and went with Kerio Firewall. No such problems since.

There was a lot of talk about this at the time (say 9-12 months ago) with people saying that ZA Pro caused no such problems and, latterly, people saying ZA now didn't seem to be causing problems.
