I have bought myself a very nice new gadget: a USB Flash drive (thumbdrive). Works like a charm, except for one thing…. When accessing the device, my floppy drive starts making a nasty noise like if it is trying to access a floppy while there is nothing in the drive. This is getting highly irritating Why does this happen, and how do I solve this? HELP!!

hi there ok try and do this go into start at the bottom of windows then
go into control panel
go to system then click on the performance tap
now look for file system
ok when in there look for floppy disk
now in there unclick the box that says search for new floppy drive
on start up
give this a try it might sort out the problem that you are having
other then that not to sure what else it might be
might be worth checking to see if there is any yellow marks in the system

thank you backup2k1, this however did not occur to be the problem.
When browsing Explorer i mentioned the drive F:\ this was a "Virtual Clone Drive" created by Clone CD. since i figured this "virtual" thing probably causing trouble, i removed it. Thumbdrive works without other dirves going bonkers now.
