Someone claims they have a ps2 game selector and you can play more than 1 game on a disc? Is this for real? I have read about it and i new it was under development stages but i didn't think it was out yet.
Thanx

ohh... i got one of those... on a demo disk... i really doubt its realy cuz u must have ripped games to like 1 meg to actually get them on a cdr woith more games.. unless dvdr maybe possible

I tried burning the iso image onto a dvd-r and I got a Pink border instantly. It think i burned it wrong though. I used recordnow! Max and i loaded the iso image. Is there any way to set it to the correct format for a ps2 dvd? The dvd that it created is unreadable even in my pc? What about if i just drag all the files into a data disc templete in recordnow! Max? Would that be the right format? Does anybody else want to give the program a try. I might just try and burn one game onto a cdr using the game selector files and see if it loads even then.

grandmaster F

Jan 26, 2003, 09:20 PM
yodadoesitjedistyle it isn't pubstealing, since this isn't an ISO sharing board, it's just miss-posted (no games etc bein posted less it's ISO folder:D, anyway the fact that it doesn't work anymore means its just rubbish text;)

Im sorry if by posting that link i have broken some of the rules on this board but im just trying to get some help and this board is the greatest when it comes to that. if anyone else needs this file please PM me I will take away the ftp link now!

i think he may have but im not sure:-) I thin ur supposed to put all the games in the root dir.

yeah you put all the game files and folders in the root directory. just copy and paste it off the cd and into the same folder.

garagekru
Feb 01, 2003, 11:38 AM
i tryed it on dvdr and it didn't work

was thinking it was something wrong with the way i generated the image as u dont need to select cd or dvd

a dvd has a different boot sector type thing then a cd

thats why it may be working on a cd but not a dvd

ERcRacer14
Feb 01, 2003, 11:44 AM
crash what exe file did u use ine the game.txt document for the media player?

jockyboy
Feb 01, 2003, 11:45 AM
try looking at the structure of an original game and try to follow that.

or if you have a demo disc, look in that and try and decifer what should go where.
after all it is the same thing we are trying to do but with full games

ERcRacer14
Feb 01, 2003, 11:53 AM
well it says in the tutorial to copy the game slus(exe) name into the game.txt file. In the media player it does not have a slus or exe file so how did he get it to work?

ERcRacer14
Feb 01, 2003, 01:23 PM
i hope my swap magic discs will load it. For some reason they will not load up codebreaker 4 me. I'm burning a disc right now with the dvd update disc, ps2 media player & small vid, and codebreaker. Hopefully it works. BTW: Im burning these on a cdr.

CRASH HARD
Feb 01, 2003, 01:29 PM
good luck. btw sometimes , well most of the time it goes to the ps2 browser screen when you choose a game from the selector but if you keep trying it will probably load if you use the method i used. btw its a bit shabby its a boring black background with rubbish text names for the files. a little star goes up and down and its by... coldblooded

ERcRacer14
Feb 01, 2003, 01:30 PM
ok It burned and i loaded it into my ps2! It LOADED! but there was a problem. I said Loading game list....Games.txt not found. I brought the cd over to my pc and the file is there. What is up with that?

ERcRacer14
Feb 01, 2003, 01:32 PM
could it be my swap magic disc working against me again?

CRASH HARD
Feb 01, 2003, 01:33 PM
hmm i dont know did you leave it as it was and just replace the games in the text and not make a new one or did you make a new one? make sure you have the games in the text file all right, maybe you made a mistake in the text file? i dunno.

ERcRacer14
Feb 01, 2003, 01:54 PM
i just opened the text and replaced the games w/ my games. Here is what it looks like:
DVD Update;PBPX_952.08
cbv4;SLUS_202.02
media player;MPLAYER.ELF
I only used the first 3 lines and that is it.

ERcRacer14
Feb 01, 2003, 02:01 PM
I'm gunna burn it one more time. I re-did the games.txt file. Would it matter if the name of the file is in caps? on the ps2 it looks like it is in caps. on my pc it is lowercase.

CRASH HARD
Feb 01, 2003, 02:04 PM
i did it exactly as the ps2 filename was.

ERcRacer14
Feb 01, 2003, 02:07 PM

I just want to say one thing! Anyone who is thinking of getting a V7 w/ a no-solder swap don't! They suck! It wont boot codebreaker, it wont boot, some kalisto releases, and it wont boot this stupid game selector!!! It just went to a friends house and his PS2 using gs v2 booted the game selector fine. Of course it was on a cdr but it still booted! Is this case with a no-solder mod on say a v5 ps2? Or is it just the V7 that have these bootinf problems w/ a no-solder mod?

CRASH HARD

couldnt get it to work either...

Tried twice.
Far as I got was to the menu screen, then you select a game
then it goes to (blank)black screen. You can hear the disc still
spinning.
I had Marvel vs Capcom 2,PSMS, and Harvest Moon on the cd
and nothing works

I'm not going to waste anymore of my time with it until more possitive
results are found (with other members,& a guide to going along with).

PS2 Game Selector - Burning and Booting.

1) You'll need to copy 2 (or more games) to a directory on your hard drive.
Hopefully the games won't share any of the same files or directories.
If they do, then this probably won't work.
I believe the PS2 has a 30 file limit per directory, so don't pick games
that have a lot of files in the root directory.

2) Use this system.cnf file. Ignore the games system.cnf just use the one supplied with the game selector.

3) Edit the games.txt file in the following format: (1 line per game)
eg-
Star Wars Bombad Racing;PBPX_952.001
Capcom vs. SNK;PBPX_952.01

The executable is pretty easy to pick out. It usually has the word SCUS or SLUS in it then some numbers.
If 2 games have the same name, you can rename one of them to something else. If you
are having trouble, look at the games systen.cnf file in notepad. (first line).

3) Build Image. Use the ps2cdgen for cd-r games to create the image (mode 2) and nero or prasii for dvd-r. Include all the files from all the games exept the games system.cnf , and the game selector files - main.elf, system.cnf, and games.txt included with the game selector in the root.

4) Burn it onto a blank cd-r/dvd-r and boot it up with a modchip or the swipe card method.

crstofer, theres a program that comes with the instructions called cdgenps2. Copy all the files in there and it makes bin/cue files. Not sure what to use to burn back a bin/cue file, for dvdrs.

Hi...I'm back! WOW! This post has gotten pretty big. I dont have any news accept that is does work on a CDR. It is confirmed! I have tested it with about ten different game combintations. Of course being able to more than one game on a cdr is kindof useless. The reason they are not booting on dvdr is becouse of the cd/dvd checks on the games. It would need to come with a program that could change the "if not dvd play line" to "if not dvd don't play"
That is just my theory anyway.

matt_machin
Feb 11, 2003, 10:13 AM
yeah i thought about this for when i get my dvd writer. My ps2 won't play cd-r games inc rips so when i get my dvd-r drive i will put them on cd, then using the checks that can be found on the internet reverse them so where they were editied to be "if not dvd - play" back to "if not dvd - don't play" so they will work again!

horray

perhaps ERcRacer14 you could use my thought up method and see if it works. using hex editor to change the checks back to what they orignally were.

ERcRacer14

the checks that Matt is talking about are the ones that are in the SCUS file in every game. This check is make the game play on cd-r when you rip the game from a dvd.

ERcRacer14
Feb 13, 2003, 11:18 AM
I know but he said that he had a site that told you which to change to get it back to how it was on the dvd.

Edit* I wonder if there is a site that has the original slus or scus files to download? The ones unedited b with dvd checks in tact. That would be a key element to getting this game selector to work!

matt_machin
Feb 13, 2003, 05:46 PM
ERcRacer14 - i can't remember the exact site, i just came across it when i was ripping games but an example would be like this.

4. Open slus_205.04 with hex editor and remove these checks.

offset 001A6DF4: Change 2D808000 to 01001024

offset 001AE11C: Change 2D100002 to 14000224

So in the cd rip version of this game the checks would be 14000224 and 01001024 so change them back to the originals of 2d100002 and 2d808000.

That is what i meant

wopah seemed to understand also, : have you ever tried this wopah? I am yet to get a dvd burner to see if it works but it should do

Any luck adding those dvd checks to the Selector. For anyone wondering what a dvd check does. All it does is Chech to see if the game is on the origanal media that it came on. If the game was origanally a DVD Based (silver Bottom) game The dvd check will see if it is still on dvd. That is why they are removed/modified when a dvd game is ripped onto a cdr. Hope that helps and lets crack this one. I wish i knew how to create dvd check in a Hexediting program:-(

I think all you would have to do is add a dvd check to the selector since the games already have them. It seems like it must be pretty simple if you know how to do it (or if the group that released the cd version knows how to do it). Maybe you have to change the TOC or something too, I don't know

I beleive the cdgenps2 only makes cd images. I know the cd/dvd generator can make dvds but since I don't have a compatible burner I have to save as an iml file and use iml2iso to convert. I believe iml2iso only converts to a cd image.

I'm having this problem with creating any custom dvd. When I try to burn the image....in serveral different progs....it tells me it is a cd image and asks for a cdr. got one to fianlly burn jimmy-riggn it, but didn't work. I think the image need to be made for a dvd.

Used Cd/dvd generator...created a new dvd...exported as an iml file.

Used iml2iso to convert to a iso image

Opened image in nero burning rom...it opened as a cd....changed drop-down list at top-right from cd to dvd....and burned to a dvd-rw.

Dvd-rw's are good, I have burnt movies on them and they all played in the ps2.

Tried on ps2v7 with no-solder mod and swap magic boot disk

I followed the instructions of putting 2 dvd games in a folder along with the selector files. I edited the games.txt file as directed. I used the sony cd/dvd generator to make a dvd iml file, then I used iml2iso to make an iso out of it. I burned the iso with prassi primodvd and tried it, but it just took me to the memory card screen. I have a magic 2 modchip.

I might try other methods if this dvd-rw would work, but I don't think wasting more dvd-rs would be worth it. I've read that you can hook up an external pc dvd drive to an xbox to read media better. Is that kind of thing possible with the ps2 as well? I kind of doubt it since the xbox is so much more like a pc.

Been watching this thread with great interest as im a big fan of XMenu on the X-Box - What i cant understand is why a group would release a PS2 game selector that is designed for CDR (which is what it seems like it was developed for) - i mean you aint gonna get many games on a CDR - You could get up to 7 CDR Rips onto a DVDR - so why the hell did they not set up the game selector to support this? - unless it just cant be done - Would be bloody useful if it did though - Hopefully some other enterprising group will take this on and get it to work via DVDR - we live in hope

you can put dvd-rips on cd-r's, but you have to take off the dvd-checks....

But put more than one dvd-rip on a cd-r???????? Think man....how would 2-3 dvd rips fit on one 700mb cdr??? One dvd-rip barely fits on a cd.

xobitx-

I've tried many times to burn ps2reality on a dvd-r. had no luck so far

But here is my process and some info I've learned:

With swap trick, you have to set the lba to 1,600,000 (instead of 12231 for CD-R).

Use cd/dvd generator(patched--no size limit). Create a .iml file.

then convert using iml2iso (make sure it is the new version, the original doesn't work with large images)

and burn.

the dvdr media that I used works fine for games I've copied.

didn't work.

I keep trying and looking for more info on something I might be doing wrong.

Try it out and post your process(with results)

good luck.

hi. i read through all 19 pages of the thread and i started looking at it. I begin telling u what i know for sure. CDGEN ps2 won't ever make a correct iso to fit on dvd, cause it will keep LBA to fit iso on cd. Secondly, to manage to put this selector on dvd, u will need cddvdgenerator, copyrighted by sony, and only version 1.50 or above could work. Thirdly, if dvd comes out correctly from iso creation, u will be able to put only full dvd on it, or at least if u try using dvdrip u will have to delete patched files from rip and substitute them with original files from dvd.
I will let u know more detailed results tomorrow, when i'll try to burn dvd compilation.

I tried to disassemble elf file of the selector and well, very nice new... it doesn't have any kind of protection/dvdchecks, or better to say cd check. After having found this i wanted to see if such a good news could be confirmed and then... YES it booted fine on dvd :)
For now i just tried 2 dvd on 1 RW and it booted fine. And with this new cd dvd generator i managed to boot directly also divx player + avis on it. More experiment to come soon. For now at least we know it works!!!

what i would like to now is if you lets say rip the full content of one 2gig dvd game and another 2gig dvd game and i you want to put them together in one dvd would i need to take out the dvd checks in the files of the orignal game or would the dvd check on the original game wouldnt matter

for dvds i am sure u can just leave dvd intact, and if u want u can remove dummy files or padding. As for dvdrip, i am almost sure that u would need to replace patched files with the original files from the dvd, so that dvdchecks are still there.

I can't find any version of cd/dvd generator above 1.2, you say theres atleast a version 1.5

Could anyone, *cough**cough* old house, suggest a filename to search for?

Or if you know a link, you could email it to me. Or I could set up a ftp to send it to.

Sounds like this is what I need to progress on solving my problems.

thanks, oh yeah....props to oldhouse.

Your drive probably isn't supported. I just use iml2iso (large version) or a simular program( i believe others are sony2gh and mkps2iso) to convert the .iml file to an image then burn.

Romanov-
You got the cdvdgen off the ps2ownz irc? thats where I got the sony2gh and mkps2iso (I haven't tried these yet.)

As for iml2iso_large.zip:

http://www.ps2collector.co.uk/ps2jsp/showtools.jsp?section=Tools

(make sure you get the large version, the origional iml2iso doesn't support large image files, needed for dvds)

oh yeah, I almost forgot....on iml2iso, atleast the original -- I'm not sure about the new version--

I believe the path to the file has to be dos- compatible (so no more than 8 and 3 chars in the filename or directories, sorry no working on your desktop).
