Am looking to upgrade from A03 - have seen the Sony DRU 500A, and like the idea of it doing +R/RW too as well asr -R/RW.

Was gonna get an A05, but wit hthe price of the sony drive very close, was wondering what i should do, im tempted, but i still get the feeling of "Go for what u know" and stick with Pinoeer.

Any thoughts?

I've got pie m8, with 4x discs only £1.30 from SVP you can't go wrong.

Only used the recommend 4x discs and never had a coaster.

Well,I for one,have both drives.I have had my Sony for a few months now,just added(another system) the 105.After the media problems on the 105,and the fact that the Sony has been great,I would buy the Sony.Actually the 105 went into an external enclosure.It is not a bad drive,but I would not buy one if I didn't get it for a low price!As I said before,the Sony is WORTH an extra $100 to me!

Does the Sony have any probs with media like the 105?

Well I can burn 2x with 1x media in many cases. I have used Ritek and Accu,both low priced,at 2X.I have used the new Ritek 4X dvdr-.It is also nice to use RW+ media for testing.You don't have to keep erasing them like RW-.You format them once,then record over the old stuff.I have used about 20 types of media,the only discs I had problems with were the cheap Princos.
