Its unfortunate that some of the replies given are so unhelpful and unfriendly. My recent post attracted three responses, none of which were answering my question. The responses were just a poor attempt to take the p***. Members such as SSSJK being described as senior members should be aware that their numerous humor will discourage people from using this site.

hi jonmic,
imho
dont let them get you down, there are such people in all places, just ignore them.(above all dont flame/name them, it only gets them going and dosnt do you any good either).
the main reason for no replies will be because it`s been asked already many times.
so first do a search to try to find the answer yourself.
if no luck with that then bump your question again if it falls off the first page.
if sill no joy then ask one of the very helpful mods who do read every post and have a soft spot for new members who try to help themselves.
good luck and enjoy it.

Yep, don't let it get you down m8. I agree that some response on the forums do suffer from an extreme lack of tact and offer very little help, but that's their loss.

Some members (and even us mods at times :) ) do get a bit tired of seeing the same questions again & again month after month, but hey that's life. As aaronjon suggested, you may wish to try the search button before asking certain questions as some have been asked 1,000's of times and you will get your answer in seconds instead of having to wait for hours. ;)

But stick with us and don't let it get you down m8, we are not all that bad! :)

And remember all you Senior & Vet members reading this, we were ALL newbies once.

Jonmic,

I wasn't trying to be rude or unhelpful. I truly am sorry if you felt this way. It just gets repetitive when people ask the same questions over and over again.

When I was a newbie I did the same thing and someone flamed me for it. I didn't retaliate with some post on the board. I stuck with it and took there advice to search the board more frequently before I made a post.....and what do you know....I found three to five threads asking the SAME question that I was asking.

Anyway, Sorry if I came off on the wrong foot.

And here's some info regarding your first post courtesy of vcdhelp.com

DVD-R and DVD-RW
DVD-R/W was the first DVD recording format released that was compatible with standalone DVD Players.
DVD-R is a non-rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 88% of all DVD Players and DVD-ROMs.
DVD-RW is a rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 69% of all DVD Players and DVD-ROMs.
DVD-R/W supports single side 4.7 GB* DVDs(called DVD-5) and double side 9.4 GB* DVDs(called DVD-10).
These formats are supported by DVDForum.

DVD+R and DVD+RW
DVD+R/W has some better features than DVD-R/W such as lossless linking and both CAV and CLV writing.
DVD+R is a non-rewritable format and it is compatible with about 84% of all DVD Players and DVD-ROMs.
DVD+RW is a rewritable format and is compatible with about 70% of all DVD Players and DVD-ROMs.
DVD+R/W supports single side 4.7 GB* DVDs(called DVD-5) and double side 9.4 GB* DVDs(called DVD-10).
