I wonder if anyone can help - a friend recently got a lite-on 41025s , and is having difficulty with burning audio. The system is win98 celeron 500 with 64mb and a sony cd-rom (old I know but within the spec for the burner)

The cds seems to copy okay (Nero 5.5 as given with burner) but on playback it is jumping and sticking at various points and is then fine again - I have tried the following:

1. drop burner in another system (mine) - athlon 1.333 , 512mb, pioneer dvd 106s and it works fine.

2. added more memory up to 256mb and same problem.

3. swapped the cd-rom but to no avail.

4. checked all the cables - no issues there

5. replaced the sound card - no joy

DMA is not enabled on either cd-rom or burner - is this the issue (not sure about DMA)

am I doing something wrong - will it be hardware or software

this is doing my nut and not sure what to do next

Greets :) 1st I'd Enable the DMA's Cdrom,Writer, Harddrives!!
2nd Are you burning Audio from Wave, Mp3's ,ect .ect.
if your trying to convert Mp3's as you burn then there maybe a HORSEPOWER issue witch could be causing Smartburn to kick in ( This turing the laser on and off) can cause problems skips, jumps ect ect !!
My advice would be to take all your Music and create an Image to the harddrive........ then burn the image to the cd, this will solve the issue of trying to converting the mp3 and trying provide a enuff info to the burner so the smartburn doesn't kick in ( you also may need to turn the burn speed down, as long as smartburn doesn't come on then you should be fine, but if you see the burn light change colors during the burn process then you may want to slow the write speed down on the next burn)
If you trying to burn "ON THE FLY" you may need to setup you system different!!

Hope this Helps some
