My bud just bought a Memorex 52x burner (I know, I told him to order a lite-on but a few days wait would have killed him) We put it in and everything went fine till we went to burn the disk. It took almost 14 min to burn a full cd with the burnproof light changing colors often. I have a lite-on 24x and it would have done that disk in 4 min or less. It has been a while since i fooled with setting one up, any ideas? I can't even remember where to look for enable Dma in 98, but I was already away from the machine when I thought about it. All help is much appreciated!

His system is an AMD K-6-2 500
256M memory
10 or 20 gb 5400 hard drive
Win 98 SE

Enable DMA = Device Manager> select the Memorex drive and make sure the box is checked for DMA.

Also, I've not seen one single 52X rated CDR for sale period. Unless your media is up to the task then you will not be able to burn at max. What type of CD were you trying to copy and what CD reader were you using?

These all have a large bearing on the matter, check out th CD reader at www.cdspeed2000.com/ to see how it rates for data /audio transfer for OTF burning.

Thanks Guy, We weren't copying a disk but were burning from MP3's on the hard drive. I'll enable DMA and see what happens.
