ThE SnAkE Feb 01, 2003, 07:21 PM good luck finding one, im trying to one too, no shops seem to have it
jesterrace777 Feb 02, 2003, 05:29 AM Depends how badly you want to have the ability to burn + format discs. From the postings that I have read DVD+ formats aren't doing too hot in the UK and if I remember correctly there is about a 60 pound difference between the A05 and the Sony. If you really want the + and like the snake said are willing to wait for one then get the drive if not then get the A05.
dangerouseddy Feb 02, 2003, 07:07 AM they the same price roughly if you buy the retail boxed pioneer drive.
ShIfTeR101 Feb 02, 2003, 12:16 PM thanks for the advice guys ive just heard some bad things about the A05 but you all seem to like it. Is it a good drive ?? better than the a04 ?? whats the best media to use on it ???

jesterrace777 Feb 05, 2003, 03:24 AM I think most of us will agree that Ritek, Princo, and Verbatim are great and I have heard several people claiming good results with datawrite discs. Most people haven't used the fujifilm discs (which by the way support the 4x burn) due to the other options being cheaper but these are the ones that I personally use and I love them they play great. Even my picky philips dvd drive on my xbox reads them just fine. By the way these recommendations are all for DVD-R format which is almost always the cheapest media anyway. I have the cendyne105 drive by the way (which is the exact same drive as the A05 but doesn't have a couple of the programs although it is a lot cheaper). If you have access to Cendyne DVD drives I might suggest going this route as there will be a definite price difference between it and the sony. By the way most of the bad stuff about the A05 Pioneer comes from it's earliest days of release where the DVD media wasn't able to adapt to a 4x burner. This was also a problem with the sony when it first came out but media manufacturers scrambled and were able to fix this problem. For either drive I would stick to the recommended brands of media or you will have trouble. DVD is much more sensitive and isn't like burnable cds where you can just look for the cheapest piece of crap and expect it to work on everything.
ShIfTeR101 Feb 05, 2003, 03:31 AM ok mate thanks for the advice

Hardware
Device Manager
DVD/CD-Rom drives

Please look and let us know.
