Google adwords is a good quick way to get near the top if you have the money.

Anything more in my price range..........free :-)

I would suggest hosting some very useful files/downloads. The more hits that you receive the more likely you will be listed in google and yahoo. My personal website is even listed on google and there isn't very much there and I haven't had a chance to work on it in over a year.
