u-571 Feb 03, 2003, 06:04 PM anyone give me a guide or a link to using controller or raid card? Im wanting to connect an extra hard drive?? Darkman Feb 03, 2003, 06:51 PM Simple enough. Install the IDE card into a free PCI slot, connect up your extra HD to the Primary controller & load the IDE Card's software. On boot up the card will auto detect any devices connected to it. I use a UDMA IDE PCI controller card myself to run 2 extra HDs. u-571 Feb 03, 2003, 07:02 PM great ,thanks. reason I want to add extra hd is that my bios wont recognize a 40gb hd that I bought,so if I connect pci card then this will recognize the drive using the software? and also what way should I have drives set up? currently set up as prim master-6.4gb hd prim slave -dvd rom drive sec master- 24x liteon burner Darkman Feb 03, 2003, 08:17 PM I used my IDE PCI card for that very same reason initially. I think you will have to partition the new drive to get it working properly. Partition Magic is excellent for this although you can use FDisk if you don't have PM. The card gives you 2 extra IDE controllers meaning you can add 4 more IDE devices. You can leave your current HD DVD & Burner where they are and put the new HD on the Primary controller of the IDE card. ps2wiz Feb 03, 2003, 10:54 PM What hard drive do you have u-571, most manucators make a overlay bios to solve this problem. Stephen123 Feb 04, 2003, 01:53 PM It will take minutes to do this , I done the same on a PC for my dad last week . He had a 6.4 gb Hard Drive and we swopped it for a 40gb Drive and the old mobo wouldn't recognise the 40 gig one . Popped one of they cards in and BINGO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Saves you changing mobos and a lot cheaper , Think I paid £20 for the card . u-571 Feb 04, 2003, 02:43 PM did you have to do anything like partition the drive to get it running? website has a bios update but Im unsure whether this will help,if buying a pci card gets it up and running Ill be happy at that ps2wiz Feb 04, 2003, 09:45 PM No, nothing special, all you have to do is install the overlay bios, who makles your hard drive? u-571 Feb 05, 2003, 06:39 AM hard drive is made by nikimi,mb by houston,pc is a packard bell club 65 ,I think my best bet is to get one of these ide cards Darkman Feb 05, 2003, 07:20 PM The advantage is that you can add extra devices and as the new HD is on it's own IDE controller the access times are better as it's not competing with another device. u-571 Feb 05, 2003, 07:23 PM great ,thanks for the advice anyone recommend a site that does these cards? ps2wiz Feb 05, 2003, 11:12 PM I agree with Darkman, becasue i have never heard of that brand on hard dirves, therefore i doubt they have a fix for it. So just get a PCI controler Card. |
