I have a HP Pavilion computer w/ a 900 MHz athlon, 256 megs ram, 8x4x32 cdrw and a dvd rom drive. I'd like to upgrade the processor, without upgrading the MB if that's possible. From what I've read, it's probably a socket A. Is there a prog that will tell me my MB type, or what? I'd like to go as fast as possible, and eventually get a faster burner.
Any helps or links would be appreciated!

That stinks! I guess that mesns I'll go for a MOBO/processor combo. I'm thinking an athlon 21or2200 anyone have any board suggestions? I've got 256 MB of RAM that I'd like to keep, but if going to DDR is THAT much better I might switch to it.
Thanks!

well i had the same problem when trying to up grade my hp 466 celeron
i could only go to 500
i upgraded to the ECS K7S5A a great board for under 50 quid
it takes ddr or sdram up to 1 GB
5 pci slots
onboard sound
onboard lan
ect......
and is VERY STABLE
not sure but it think it can take all xp cpu, you might have to check though
the only bad thing about it is that some say its very fusy when it comes to PSUs but i have nenver had a problem and i have used the chepest 300w one and a q-tec 500w
