Hi m8

You need to know what type of memory is fitted to your dads system, guessing I would say it is either SDRam but could aslo be DDR memory so checking in the motherboard manufacturers manual will tell you what type you need. With regards to fitting more memory if you are happy getting inside the case it's simply a matter of slotting the memory into a spare bank, memory is keyed so you can only insert it one way thus avoiding any damage to memory or system.

You can go to the manufacturer's website and look up by model and or serial number and they should be able to tell you exactly what type of memory it takes. Most can tell you from the serial number exactly what components it shipped with, BIOS version of the motherboard etc.

You just need to know the make n' model of your Mainboard. Sandra (http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/sandra) will defiantly tell you about it.

After that visit www.crucial.com

Here you can specify your Mainboard model and have a list of compatible memory modules. If you don't want to buy the module from crucial.... no problem, but atleast you can choose the most suitable one from the list.
