I had a DVD-ROM (slave) and a CD-RW (master) on my computer(Xp). I replaced my CD-RW with a faster one with Samsung 240.

I used to used Nero5.5.5.4 before. But now after installing the Samsung it doesnt seem to 'recognize' my new burner.

I dont see my burner under the 'Recorder' menu. All i see is the following:

Device=Image REcorder
SCSI-ID = <blank>
Adapter = Virtual device
Adapter -No = <blank>

Nero tries to make a Image.nrg file and then tries to use my DVD-ROM itself to burn.

I tried the Auto detection feature but Nero failed.

My burner works fine with the Easy CD Creator that came with my new burner. But i dont want to use this and hence removed it.

Please Help!! I want to use only Nero. I have tried uninstalling/installign back and forth.

It sounds like you've removed or corrupted the ASPI layer during the install/removal of EasyCD and Nero. You can find instructions for ASPI layers in XP plus links to the files here: http://www.ncf.carleton.ca/~aa571/aspi.htm
