Hi all,

I have a question about disabling DirectCD. I have gone to the system configuration and disabled it in the start up, rebooted several times and when trying to write to a CD, I keep getting the message the the drive is locked by DirectCD. I get this message either with a new disk or a disk that has been formated by DirectCD. I am trying to copy data cd's and have not tried an audio CD yet. The burning SW is easy CD creator ver 5. I have looked in task manager and DirectCD does not appear. I have read somewhere that the driver for DirectCD will take the lock on the drive but I do not know where that driver is loading from. If anybody has an answer, I would appreciate the advise. Thanks.:)

DirectCD can be a real pain to purge from your system. get RegClean (http://download.com.com/3000-2094-881470.html?tag=list) and use it to remove DirectCD from your system registry.

Thanks Darkman. I'll give it a try. The other option I haven't tried is to remove DirectCD completly. Although, I did like the drag and drop feature, but if it always takes the lock on the drive it's not so great.

If you use Regclean to remove DirectCD from the Registry then DirectCD will become unuseable so you may aswell uninstall it.
IMHO Packet Writting (drag & drop) is a nice concept put in practice it never worked too well. Formatting the disc uses about 100meg and packet written discs are far more suseptible to failure. Now I just multi-session a CDRW instead.
