My PS2 didn't read any DVD's (the famouse disc read error) anymore, so i orded a new lens. No the lens is installed, but still my PS2 doesn't work. When I start my PS2, the CD rotates about 1/10 of a circle and doesn't do anything!... Does anyone know what's the problem... any ideas or sugestions are welcome. I've got a V3 PAL PS2 with a Messiah Chip Installed!

Could be a number of things. Might be a bad connection on a ribbon cable for the laser or even the media or even the intensity of your laser.

Was it a BRAND new laser? Did you remove the two solder blobs as per the instructions you should have got with it? Did you replace the grub screw into your new laser from your old one?
Sounds like either the blobs are still on OR the laser height is wrong and its having difficulty in ' seeing ' your discs, normally down to the grub screw height.

yeah, i agree, underneath the laser there are 2 tiny sets of contacts, these are bridged, so that during transit it protects the laser from static damage, check them if they are bridged use some desolder braid and UNBRIDGE them............ you should be left with 4 tiny dots of solder.

try opening the top cover of dvd drive. then adjust the laser by sliding up or down. i fixed my ps2's reading problems with this method.

Thankz ya all for your ideas... about the blob thingies under the PS2 dvd lens, When i got my lens, they where already removed, could this mean that they probably send me a bad lens?? About the ribon cable.. i'm going to test if it isn't damaged. And about adjusting the DVD hight, with my prefious lens, it still reads PS2 CD, even if i just lowered the lens completely down or UP... but anymore sugestions/comments are welcome.. PLEASE HELP ME:tup:

Just because it doens't have the anit-static blobs doesn't necessarily mean that it's bad. But it could be. Lasers are VERY sensitive to static, it depends what kind of enviroment you changed it out in. Were you grounded with an anti static wrist strap?

I didn't use any anistatic things.. but i also didn't totch any electronic compenenst of the lens. I've also tested the ribbon cable (from the lens to the PS2 mainbord) and it has no broken connections. So they probably send me a defected lens.... but if anyone has any ideas.. please post it!!!

Really the only thing to check from here is to try another laser... there's not a lot of testing you an do. They either work or they don't...
