 Now thats fast. Its beginning to look like instead of using scsi cards we will be able to just use the normal eide connection. Keeping that in mind prices are going to drop like flies on scsi HDDs you know. I bet the price of that HDD is going to be about $300-$400 when it comes out.

Wow, some questions spring to mind, access time and noise and does'nt the MTBF equate to 136 years or is my brain dead. It does'nt mention what capacity they will be released in either and seeing we are at 200gb will they be bigger???

WD already have 8mb buffers on their Caviar SE range with the 120gb going for £103 at ebuyer ( $169us) but these are 7200rpm with a rated 8.9ms access god knows what these 10000rpm drives will fly at.....?

ps2wiz01, always first with the breaking news stories...:D

Smiffy, or course the drives will get bigger. They already have 250gig drives out and 300gigs are scheduled to be released before the end of the year.

who will be the first to provide ata 150 on their motherboard?

I don't know who was first, but my "Abit It7 MAX V2" has Serial ATA (ATA 150 and up) Built in, Abit also give you an adapter for which you can use the thin serial ATA cable to conect to regular devices. It has 2 ATA100 IDE channels, 2 ATA133 Raid channels (you don't have to have a raid setup, one CDROM or a one hard drive will work), and it has 2 serial ata conections. But the bad thing about serial ata is that you can only use one cable for one device. So all toghter you can have 10 IDE devices on this mobo.
Its was award best mobo of the year by the way.
I love this mobo!

Suprised to see the capacity size of these drives, with the current trend you would of expected them to be bigger. Mind you reading between the lines this product is not so much aimed at the casual/SOHO. 5.2ms access time and 5 Years warranty plus 136.9 years predicted MTBF :) WD certainly have faith in their products..

I also have the Abit board, but from tests I have seen onthe WD SATA drives, they are not much faster than ata100 drives.ZD and I believe Tomshardware both said it wasn't up to the hype.

I've seen synetic tests with not a big difference between ATA100 and ATA150, but in real world testing there was a difference. This kinda negative stuff apeared when ata66 came out...people were saying there's hardly a difference, so they will just stick to ata33....But i don't think anyone will say that now.
