OK, I want to transfer some laserdiscs I have to DVD-R. I have never done this. Has anyone here tried? What kind of hardware should I use? Any recommendations on an input card for my PC? Also, some of the movies are "flippers" on laserdisc... ie, they have to be flipped in the middle of the movie. What software would be best to join the two halves?

I do NOT want to compress or anything at all. I just want to rip the two sides to my PC, combine the halves and burn to DVD. MAYBE make a menu. They are also Dolby 5.1 surround on laserdisc, so I would like to keep that 5.1 track as well.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much,

Zack

Well I guess it would depend on the player, but for video I would imagine that S-Video out is as good as it gets so you would need some kind of capture card either analogue and just capture to huffyuv or an analogue to DV converter and then just capture to DV.

Then run and denoising, etc. and convert to MPEG2 with something like CCE.

For the audio if your player has coax or optical then you should be able to just do a straight capture.

Joining the video would probably be easiest with AVISynth as it would avoid actually copying the two huge parts.

If you want a simple menu, then I guess it would be easiest just to use something like SpruceUp.

But then again, I don't own a laserdisc player and have never tried to convert one.
