I have hook up a pc-dvd rom to my xbox and was able to play dvd-r games (brand and non-brand) and dvd-rw movies, but will not play dvd-rw games. I know the problem is not with the burning process because I was able to play the same game burned on dvd-r using same primo and dvd-burner.
anybody might have an answer as to why my pc-dvd won't play dvd-rw games?
PC-DVD is cendyne dvr-105
dvd-rw is maxell

Strange as a PC dvd-rom drive has a much higher compatibility rate then the standard xbox dvd-rom drives. I have the cendyne105, though not hooked up to my xbox. Are you also using Maxell for your DVD-R discs?

Mine is a cheapy DVD-RW. It works fine. Which DVD drive do you have in the XBox? Thompson? Samsung or Phillips. (I have a Thompson)
Just try it couple times. My DVD-RW reads about 90% of the time.

I got the impression that he is one of the people who have hooked up a computer drive to his xbox and that he is using the cendyne105 as his xbox dvdrom drive. Am I correct in assuming this 2overcome?

jesterrace777:
the dvd-r I use is by princo and my xbox read all of them just fine.
yes, I hook up my pc dvd drive (which is the dvr-105) along side with my thompson. I put original game in the thompson drive and the dvd-rw game in the cendyne dvr-105 and still won't boot the dvd-rw. I used boxplorer to see if I can read d: drive, only found nothing (0MB) is shown. The strange thing is that it will play dvd-rw movies.
I suppose I can try other brand or non-brand of dvd-rw but I really don't think it's cause considering it will play dvd-rw movie from maxell.
I will keep on research and test, any help will be appreciated

you may close this thread now. I've solved my problem after I switched to different brand of dvd-rw. I burned on a Sony dvd-rw and no problem.
thanks all : ))
