I'm sure I'm doing something ridiculously obvioulsy simple thats wrong but god knows what?

I use a modem on my P.C to connect to the net. I have just installed a network card and am trying to use FlashFXP to connect to my xbox. I have followed all the guides I can find. BUT, when I try and connect to my Xbox, FlashFXP simply tries to dial up the net using my modem?

What am I doing wrong? I'm a newbie so no laughing :clown:

Make sure ip addresses are correct on both the xbox and pc.

yep, everything checks out, but still it happens. It's like FlashFXP doesn't even know I have a network card. Anyone any ideas? Thanks

I have the same problem. Even when I connect to the internet, all it says is:

Connecting to XBOX

then it stays like that for a while (trying to connect) befor saying:

Connection failed (connection timed out)

All of my settings are correct I think.

Still having same problem and I'm sick of messing about trying what is supposedly simple? Network card is supposedly working ok. Xbox recognises it. Lights come on on the card to show a link is made. But still it tries to dial up the net and then times out. Just like the above poster. anyone????please.

Mine tries to connect to the Internet (don't know why - I'm trying to sort it out), but when I cancel, it connects to the xbox.

If yours isn't connecting to the xbox at all, you need to check your settings (again).

try un-installing your network card, then reboot, windows should detect and install card or ask you for disk.now if you follow the guide.......

Simple Guide: Connecting XBOX to PC
Written by unr3al

Ive noticed that their is no real simple guide on connecting the xbox to your pc although their are guides on other sites they dont make it clear or simple enough for those that just want to do games and put games on the HD so here is a dead simple working guide for everyone,

Im assuming that you own an xbox that is capable of playing backups and has evolution x installed.

Right first off you need to go get yourself a network card any will do, you can get them for £2 at computer fairs or pc world has them in for £10.

Then you need to get a CROSSOVER CABLE, i use a belkin one its yellow 2 metres long and its only £7 at pc world.

Then install the network card in your pc.

Now here is the bit that most people seem to have questions about.
Go into evox (if you are running it from your xbox HD or a cd) and go to settings, then move down to Use Static IP and make sure it says YES, then go to IP, and make it 192.168.0.2, then go to Default Gateway and make it 192.168.0.1, then save and exit.

Now go to your PC go to control panel then network connections, now double click on netwok connection now in the box that has appeared highlight the TCP/IP bit and click properties, it says "OBTAIN AN IP ADDRESS AUTOMATICALLY" and "USE THE FOLLOWING IP ADDRESS" tick "USE THE FOLOWING IP ADDRESS" then in the box that says IP address type in 192.168.0.1 then go the SUBNETMASK box and make sure it says 255.255.255.0, then click OK.

Now you have got your pc and you xbox ready to go ALMOST, what you need now is a program called FLASHFXP you can get it in a free 30 day trial format which you will find if you search for it in GOOGLE, then once you have FLASHFXP install it on your PC.

Now take the CROSSOVER CABLE you bought and plug one end into your xbox,s ethernet port on the back, then plug the other into your network card, now start your pc up (if you have any firewalls or anything like that turn them off completely) now switch your xbox on (no disc in the xbox) you will now have a connection between your PC and your XBOX.

Now open up FLASHFXP go over to the little orange lightening symbol and click it then click on QUICK CONNECT now you get a box, in the SERVER OR URL box type in 192.168.0.2 then in the USER NAME box type xbox, then in the PASSWORD box type xbox, now make sure the box that says PORT has got 21 in it, then click on CONNECT you will then see a bunch of folders apear in the right hand side window and in the bottom right hand side window it will tell you the connection info now you are inside your xbox YAY.

This is the simplest way to do this if you are just looking to edit menus or copy games stuff like that.

DEAD SIMPLE.

Hope this helps.

hopefully this should work, post results!

Yes yes and yes to all the above...followed it word for word about 100 times now. Still doesn't work. It's something to do with convincing Flashfxp to use the network card rather than my modem, but christ knows how to do that. Any suggestions have failed to work.

Ok...my problem seemed to be caused by letting windows recognise my network card and load drivers for it. I went a bought a new card this morning inc. drivers. Installed the drivers that came with it and now it works fine. If anyone in this thread is using default drivers then I suggest that's what the problem may well be.

my version of evox is v1.8.458

things you need to connect to the xbox
1. cat5 crossover cable
2.Flashfxp FTP proggy (search google for it)
3.evox v1.8.458 (this is the easiest one to use because it gives you a auto ip.
4. quick guide
1. connect you cross over cable from your pc to your xbox
2. put the evox v1.8.458 into your xbox cd/dvd tray
3. Reboot the xbox
4.in the evox menu scroll to (network) choose it
5. now waite for a ip adress to automaticaly come up on the screen ware it says auto IP
6. now open flashfxp and choose quick connect (lightening bolt symbol)
7.enter the auto ip adress you see on the evox screen on your TV into the (server url window) in the flashfxp window on your computer screen
8. now check the (anonymous) option
9. now click connect and you should see all the drive letters in the xbox now.
10 thats it you are in

i hope this helps you guys with you problem this is how it is done step by step if you are having some other problem it has to do with you dial up and tcip settings you have to correct those problems your self based on how you have you machine configured.

are you guys all running evox x off the hard disk, as it's a lot easier!!!

Also make sure you have file sharing installed and that u assign a folder to be shared. That seems to be what stops some people getting connected.

Now the other part is to replace the xboxdash.xbe file on your xbox hard drive with the .xbe file from the evox disc then you will be able to boot evox from your hard drive and not the disc and on to backing up your games you go
