my ps2 doesnt read the gameshark anymore, but it still reads DVD games. I tried putting an original music cd and a burned cd and it doesnt read any of it. Any suggestions about adjusting the laser pot or buying a new cdrom drive? if so, where can i buy it from?

You tried cleaning the laser eye mate?

Other than that it does indeed sound like the CD side of the laser has failed. You can get a new laser though, depending on your PS2 version depends on how easy they are to track down.

do i have to take apart my ps2 to clean the laser or is there an easier way to clean it? I have a V4, so how difficult is it to install a new laser if my laser is the probleM?

New laser units can be quite expensive to install, its real easy to clean them though, all you have to do is take it apart and unscrew the lid from the drive and clean the lens with a q tip and a little isopropyl alcohol. Worked for me a treat when I had a simular prob. Hope that helps :-)

Not cheapest but you can get all the bits from there, and no, the installation isn't hard if you follow some safe rules of not rushing and being careful, like most things in life, becomes easier through experience

When re-fitting make sure to just screw the grub screw (part "A" in instructions) half way. Better yet Keep the tary cover off and scew it half way and test it. Adjust as needed while testing.
