My pc works fine for playing video working on spread sheets running paint shop and all things like that. But when it comes to playing games it does'nt want to know. It starts great then stops and freezes aftyer about 5 mins i know it;s not down to heat i have all the latest drivers in from their respective manufacturers. I do;nt think its irq. But may be.
I cant find the assign irq vga agp in the bios to check it.
Any body got any ideas its driving me and my son mad?
Any help would be most appreciated.
Cheers:confused:
jackmegood Feb 27, 2003, 02:44 PM Well, if it quits after 5 minutes of running games, it might be a heat issue. Make sure the heatsink is on the processor good and the fan in still spinning.

LOL, if the fan had stopped spinning it would of fried the cpu and that would be a problem, However as stated it could be a heat problem, have you got any monitoring software for system temps. Check what they are and post back....

aaronjon Feb 27, 2003, 09:14 PM probably a grafix card heat issue(check and clean the fan if onboard), with/or a power dip, what size psu r u using?
if 300w or less get a 450 or 500 and some extra case cooling fans.

Smiffy280361 Feb 28, 2003, 05:03 AM Hi m8
Temps are fine, are u using Nvidia detonator drivers and if so what version...? Try using a different version of detonator drivers (older) or even the WinXP default Nvidia drivers just to see if you can get some stability.
Nvidia WHQL (http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=winxp-2k_41.09)

8ruc1e Feb 28, 2003, 06:18 AM cheers smiffy,
I have tried various drivers.
My card is the origonal geforce 256 full card Guillemot.
After trying various detonator drivers i was advised to use the latest driver from guillemto but this does not seem to help how would i tell the pc to use the default xp driver for my card?
Smiffy280361 Feb 28, 2003, 11:22 AM Hi
Seeing that you have tried various drivers it does'nt seem to point towards a driver issue if you are experiencing the same thing with all the drivers you have tried. How about the original driver supplied with the card, or can you pinpoint a time when these problems started, hardware upgrade, software installation etc etc...?

uk_trader Feb 28, 2003, 12:45 PM Have you tried reinstalling direct x or installing the latest version.
8ruc1e Mar 25, 2003, 09:30 AM Hi Guys,
I have tried all suggestions advised here and more and cannot get the pc to stay playing games. It seems to run apps burn dvd collect mail and just about everything else happily but flat refuses to play games. Could it be the reg in windows or something like is causing the problems.
I do'nt want to format and reinstal iof i can help it but maybe it's gonna be the only way ?
skarosig3 Mar 25, 2003, 11:38 AM did u always had this problem?
i know that XP pro sometimes get crushed or do not run games.
AOEII,Empire aerth and Civ3 are some of my own examples!
try changing the comatibility,or what ever the name is, of the EXE file of that game, u know how?right click->properties->run this program as.. and choose some old OS.
this some times helps!
