View Full Version : Is playback of HP (or other) DVD+R possible on Pansonic CP67 DVD changer?

1) I recently bought a Panasonic CP67K DVD changer (the K just stands for black).

I love the size and quality of the unit and its playback of home movies burned as DVD Video format on DVD-R. Plays all my DVD-Rs.

However, I have a DVD Video on Philips DVD+R and it doesn't play
on the CP67K.

In the player comments on dvdrhelp.com one user states that it plays
most DVD+R.

I am about to buy a lot of HP DVD+R discs and wanted to know
if they will play on the Panasonic CP67.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

2) I also have trouble playing some VCDs on CD-R with this unit, whereas another of my players plays all of them.
I suspect it is a burn issue (Nero vs Easy CD, TAO versus DAO etc.) since it doesn't appear to be media specific (e.g. some Fuji VCDs on CD-R play, whereas others on same media do not play).

Any ideas?

I will burn some this weekend and check if it is a software or burn setting specific issue.

Thanks!

Panasonic is a known - format supporter and it may not be possible to do +R discs on them. Are you in the US? If so might I suggest ordering Ritek DVD-R from www.allmediaoutlet.com depending on what speed you want to write at they will cost you less (1x/2x discs) or the about the same price (4x discs). VCDs are known to have trouble with some dvd players as well. I agree that you should check out www.vcdhelp.com for format compatibility. It could also be that hp media isn't the greatest and you may need to buy a more reputable brand. If you are buying from a store officemax also has fujifilm DVD-R on special until the 3rd of March a 10 pack for $25 and these are 4x discs, I have used them for movies and for game backups and they work every time. I hope this helps

I already did that, thanks.

There are very few reviews on this unit.
Two people talk about DVD+R; one says they play, one says they don't...

Mixed results aren't a good sign. I would transfer the Hp + disc to -R media and then stick to -R if possible.

I thought the mixed results (especially since only two people posted) might be that one of them isn't authoring properly or is using the wrong burning software, or made a mistake on the burn settings (file format etc.) or put VIDEO_TS in lower case...
Who knows till I get more feedback.

I got the player for a great price $151 shipped BEFORE $30 rebate,
and it works great with DVD-Rs.
For a very slim 5 DVD changer with progressive scan and Sage Faroujda deinterlacing, it is a great deal.
It has trouble with some of my VCDs, but that seems to be a burning/authoring issue (I can always burn those with new settings or play them on my Apex or PC with TV out).

I am a little more concerned about DVD+R playback since I will keep it a while, and DVD+R is apparently gaining momentum lately, maybe I should return the player (eat the shipping both ways approx $20) and get a changer that plays both formats... I originally didn't care, since I usually only burn cheaper DVD-Rs.
I don't know of any other brand that has (such) slim DVD changers though?

I have a DRU-500A so I can burn both formats.
I also own an A05.

I only bought the 50 HP DVD+Rs because they were very cheap.
You wouldn't believe the price if I mentioned it.
My brother also has a friend who bought some Maxell DVD+Rs by mistake and is selling me 10 for $10. That is more, per disc, than the HPs cost me, by the way, just as a guide...
I also bought 15 more HP DVD+Rs for $1.40 each + tax (on sale).

That is 75 DVD+Rs right there.

I suppose I could sell them as well, and simply buy DVD-Rs (as I have always done in the past), or I could use some of the +Rs for data...

Decisions, decisions :)

Yes it seems that the + format is being pushed very hard here in the states but just a little heads up for you, even if - fades out the media will still read on players (even though you won't be able to write with it). Hp + media isn't known to be the greatest. Give the Maxell a shot as they are supposed to be good. Hp always seems to take a while before they start releasing good stuff. I'm pretty up to speed on thier activities as they are headquartered right where I live. Talk about living in a + format biased environment.
