i've got a messiah chip, i had some problems loading a game. i took my ps2 back to the guy who installed it. he opened it up and set on a little white wheel, with teeth on it in the cd/dvd rom drive. since then my cd/r games have not worked again. what is this thing and what is it's function? i have fiddled with it myself (stoopid) and i got it to work on the games that did not work,but now the others do'nt. i'm trying to determine if it is the laser or the games(all verbatim cd/r&dvd) i've had the ps2 for less than a year and can't fathom that it's the laser. PLEASE HELP:(

It's the laser, the little white wheel adjusts the height of the laser, take a black permanent marker and mark the position of the whell and then adjust until everything reads, that mark will be your reference point. Moving the wheel left makes the laser go up, right goes down. It's going to take you awhile to get the thing adjusted correctly, be patien. It took me a week.
