this ps2 has never had a chip in it
so no foreign solder is on the board

hey guys
i have come across a v4 ps2 with some strange issues
first of all when it boots to the browser screen the color looks kind of greyish or colorless almost like black and white
also it wont read anything
i have verified that the laser is flashing the red light as it should but when it starts up the cd starts spinning and doesnt speed up it just keeps going at a slow rate (4x maybe) and the laser sounds like its trying to read but it sounds like it is sputtering
short bursts of laser noise unlike the long steady sound i'm used to hearing from a properly working laser
i have adjusted the azimuth with the white cog both ways several clicks (one at a time ) and it didnt help
when the system boots it goes to the browser screen and then if u hit enter it says reading disc for at least a couple of minutes and then says disc read error
i have tried to clean the laser also with a qtip several times and that didnt help at all
i have a laser adjustment faq but i dont have an oscilloscope(sp?)
and not sure if i should touch the laser pots without the proper equipment (i know u arent supposed to touch the dvd pots)

has anyone seen the color probs i mentioned and what about the sputtery sounds from the laser
the disc doenst appear to be slipping on the spindle hub it just sounds like short quick read attempts by the laser over and over again

i would say that the laser has come to the end of its life.the colour could be the scart lead.
