Stevie boy Mar 08, 2003, 06:08 AM I've e-mailed some Jpegs to a friend, but there is a problem getting them to open on her pc. When trying to open them we get this error message.
Cannot find the file, blah blah, make sure the path and file name are correct and that all required filenames are available.
Also, I've tried right clicking so that I get the 'open with' box, but 'open with' doesn't appear in the list.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Steeve.
seracca Mar 08, 2003, 06:20 AM When you tried to get the "open with" selection, did you highlight the file first ?
The proper way to do it is left click the file once to highlight, hold the shift key and THEN right click.
Stevie boy Mar 08, 2003, 06:30 AM Thanks for your reply seracca, I've tried what you said, ie, highlighting and then right clicking, but I still don't get 'open with'. When I highlight and choose properties, it says it's a CorelPHOTO-PAINT! 4.0 Picture file or asociated with that progrmme?

lemolelly Mar 08, 2003, 06:43 AM What OS are you on?
In xp goto control panel> folder option>File types - then scroll down to jpeg images and change which prog opens them.
Soz, just noticed win 95, cant remember but is there a folder options in start under progs control panel etc.
Stevie boy Mar 08, 2003, 06:56 AM Yes, there is a folder options under start. At the moment I have it set to classic style.
Steeve.
lemolelly Mar 08, 2003, 07:02 AM OK If you go into folder options can you see one of the tabs as being " file types"
Click on that tab.
(Hopefully) there is a list of file extensions and if you click on each one it says which associated programme is used to open the file.
Scrool down to jpeg and see what prog is being used to open the jpeg.
In 95 cant remember what it is set at but you can change it to IEexplorer or windows paint etc.
Stevie boy Mar 08, 2003, 07:11 AM Thanks again for your reply, I've checked that & it's odd, Jpegs are set to open with IE, which is what I would expect. I've noticed though, that the pictures I e-mailed from my camera, which were sent as Jpegs appear as 'CorelPHOTO-PAINT! 4.0 Picture' which isn't what they were sent as? Any more ideas?
Steeve.
lemolelly Mar 08, 2003, 07:23 AM I may be a milliom miles away here but on xp there are 4 file extensions for jpeg images.
1. JFIF = JPEG Image open with.......
2. JPE = JPEG Image open with........
3. JPEG=JPEG Image open with.......
4. JPG =JPEG Image open with........
Do you have these four extensions? If yes are they all set to open with IE?
Goto go bloody shopping with the wife now (great):( will check your post when I get back.:)

Stevie boy Mar 08, 2003, 07:32 AM JPE JFIF JPEG, I have those three and they're all set to open with IE. What I can't understand, & I think threre's a connection, is that the Jpegs I sent now appear to be CorelPHOTO-PAINT! 4.0 Picture images and they are set to open with Corel draw. Thanks again.
Steeve.
lemolelly Mar 08, 2003, 07:47 AM Do you wanna send me a picture and I will see if I can figure it out at this end then mail you back.
Do you have adobe photoshop?
Stevie boy Mar 08, 2003, 08:06 AM Thanks again, I'm using the recipients pc now. I have put some of the Jpegs onto a cd. When I put them on they were Jpegs. Now they are the Corel things. I don't have Corel on my pc, so I don't know how they are that now. I can try to send you one if you like. Don't have Adobe photoshop on this pc.
Steeve.
Stevie boy Mar 08, 2003, 08:39 AM I think I've cracked it. In 'folder options' I created a new option associated with this type of file. I told it to open with IE & it's working. It's funny though, because I don't have Corel, so how do these Jpegs now seem to be Corel paint things? Anyway I've managed to open them but, I hope I've not created another problem in Corel. I'm still open to suggestions,
Stevie.
