My understanding is that the Record buffer is similar to the electronic skip protection in a cd player. The Burning process is consumes a lot of your computer resources and the Record Buffer level is designed to fill in the gaps (so to speak) when your computer can't process that bit of info. at the moment because it is too busy doing other things. The bigger the buffer the less likely you are to have issues with the recording screwing up. Are you doing an on-the-fly burn (reading straight from a dvd-rom drive to your dvd burner)? I certainly wouldn't recommend doing this with the 104. Write to the HD first and then back to the burner for best results with this drive. If you are already doing this then you might want to try a different burning program.
