they are cheap compared to a more well known ones which has put me off when i've seen them at comp fairs. If you leave your pc on all night or something get a power supply that has got a cut out switch on it incase something goes wrong with it,not sure if these have, would be nasty to find a fried comp when you wake up one morning.

hi ive been thinking of doing the same thing!!

how did you lower the voltage, as i was just going to swap the fans?

I bought a simple 3 pin regulator ic from an electronics store, an 8v 1a ic, so really there not 7v but 8v. if u wanted to do 7v, just rewire them inside so that the red fan wire goes to the one of the yellow output wires +12v, and the black fan wire goes to the red output wire +5v, this will give you 7v without requiring any parts.

As always - be careful inside them psu's ;)

It really is quite a lot quieter, i only did it because i only have one other fan, and thats on my radiator (water cooled), and the noise seemed to loud, but now, with the water cooling and stuff, i think the noisiest part of my system is the HDD's! that is until the cheapo 54x cd-rom kicks in - that thing sounds like a bloomin jet engine.

The q-tec i purchased was way over powered for a system with 1 fan, (550w) and so it's never under any presure, if it was say a 300w then it would probably run hotter (run close to max output) and so i wouldn't of bothered.
It costs next to nothin so give it a go (asuming you know the dangers of being inside a psu), just keep an eye on the psu after, if the air coming out is considerably hotter than before, it's probably not cooling enough.
