Ninja Mar 11, 2003, 05:24 AM Lo all, well after a fun weekend of trying quite a few times to convert a svcd to dvdr i virtually managed it! (sort of) i used this guide of vcd help
http://www.dvdrhelp.com/mpeg2tovcd.htm
I copyed Mpegs off SVCD to HDD
Opened MPEG in DVD2AVI
Converted it so it is a seperate video and audio file (the audio file was saved with -65 a or something in the filename,im guessing that is the amount if have to sync the sound by?
Converted both my new Video and audio file to a dvd mpeg in TMPG
loaded the new Mpeg into Ulead dvd something or other (authoring tool) and managed to burn it all fine, it plays on my dvd player but the sound is well out of sync?
i did not do any process where i had to convert the sound to 48khz? do i need to or does the way i have done it do that for me? i tired following the guide on Doom9 but couldnt get it to work as the authoring software would never accept the file and u have to patch it etc? will i get the same output form the way i am doing things? (ie there would be no difference between two dvds. one done with the way above and the other done with the doom9 guide)
Any ideas on what to do next! as im so close to figuring it all out then i will be away!! lol
Cheers in advance

MR2-UK Mar 11, 2003, 06:08 AM Did the mpeg produced by TMPGEnc play OK without the sync problem? If it did then the problem must be Ulead.
You say " i tired following the guide on Doom9 but couldnt get it to work as the authoring software would never accept the file" what software.
Indiana Jones Mar 11, 2003, 07:11 AM The way you have described doesnt work mate, I should know, I have tried it many many times, you can rip off the svcds easily and even seperate the files but when you join them together in TMPGEnc the combined SVCD will be out of sync even before you encode it to dvd, you should check before you even start.
The only way I think people have been doing svcd-dvd is via stand alone equipment, hooking up a dvd player to a dvd recorder and doing them that way, comes out well and no lip-sync problems, I have not found 1 person who has managed svcd-dvd on a computer yet.
Ninja Mar 11, 2003, 07:14 AM ah dunno didnt test it on my pc first! damm lesson 1 learnt there! lol but i think it would of had the same problem, i used Ulead to do a few other things and they were all fine, and there is definalty no options that i could find about delaying the sound or sync ing etc..any other ideas?
With the doom9 guide i joined my 2 svcd files together, then demultiplexed them, then i guess i must have gone wrong with the dvd patcher bit, do u definatly have to do this to all SVCD's? then i reencoded the audio ok ( i tihnk) but when i tried to add the m2v file to Ulead it rejects it?
Indian Jones - There are loads of people who have got this to work!!! lots have problems yeah but once its sorted u should be fine. most people do it this way as u loose more quality if u do it via a standalone

Indiana Jones Mar 11, 2003, 07:21 AM lol like i said, they use a stand alone dvd player and a dvd recorder, I have asked many people who do the svcd films on dvd and every single one has said they use stand alone, not computers, vcd-dvd is easy on the computer but so far like I have said I have not found 1 person who has done svcd-dvd on the computer and I have asked alot for help on this.
Also, doing it via stand alone equipment wont produce worth quality, if they give it the correct bitrate it will be identical to the original.
Junie Mar 11, 2003, 08:08 AM There are plenty of people who have put svcds on dvdr Indiana Jones i made a couple myself and im a new at this. there are different methods. I just reencode the mpg in tmpng and it works fine then theres the patching method to make ulead think its compliant never used that method myself but yes many people have successfully done it.

If that is right then why has no one ever posted on here a method which works 100% and I have seen many people asking how to do svcd-dvd and no one has ever given them a method that works, is it a secret or something.
Junie Mar 11, 2003, 08:15 AM do a search you will find a couple of methods.
Ninja Mar 11, 2003, 10:44 AM Junie - can u just gimme a quick step guide to what u did using just Tmpng? from the beginning, i have just coped the two mpegs of the svcd cd's
Indiana Jones - all the methods work it is 99% of the time a user error
Cheers

danman Mar 11, 2003, 11:01 AM I've used CCE to re-encode SVCD-DVD-R without any problems. it's not a secret at all. If you learn Avisynth and CCE then you can more or less re-encode anything.
I've also brought many SVCD re-encodes from traders over BST. I can guarantee these were not done on a standalone as I'm familliar with all the resolutions that standalones record at and the structure of the DVD.
Ninja Mar 11, 2003, 11:17 AM so danman any simple guide u can give me on how to do it?

danman Mar 11, 2003, 11:56 AM There is no simple guide (at least not from me), you just need to familliarise yourself with Aivsynth and CCE for the video and perhaps besweet for the Audio.
There are lots of guides for these apps on sites such as doom etc that explain the workings far better than I could.
Once you work out how to generate an Avisynth script (and believe me the possabilities are indeed endless) any form of video transcoding is possible.
I really do recomend you look into it, you have to appreciate what each command line does before you put it to work, as 1 false comma etc will render your script useless.
ChrissyBoyII Mar 26, 2003, 04:43 PM no one ever posted on here a method which works 100% and I have seen many people asking how to do svcd-dvd and no one has ever given them a method that works, is it a secret or something.
On my site there is a guide, along with the application to do the conversion job. You still need to author using Maestro, DVD MF, Spruce up, Ifoedit...
I spent 1 month after getting a DVD burner going round the houses with this. Each bit of software had its little issue. I eventually fond ones that didn't.
Hope this helps

ponyboy11 Mar 27, 2003, 09:58 AM ok ChrissyBoyII i have your program. my next problem is: i have a movie which is on 4 cd's. i think its svcd but i think the format is mpeg but your program is looking for a .bin file. at least it is on the guide how can i get this to work so i can convert to dvd-r???? please help.
ChrissyBoyII Mar 27, 2003, 10:07 AM If your movies are already on cds you need to extract the mpgs into a directory on your hard drive. The tool works with a directory full of svcd .bins or svcd .mpgs. Anyway a tool which will do this is VCDEasy. It's mpegtools allow you to rip a mpg directly from a physical cd.
Hope this helps
BTW: Once you extract the mpg do a right click "Mpeg Info..." to get details about the file. If you see something like "Mpeg 2 Program Stream File [Video/Audio]" then its a SVCD.
