Hi, I am pretty new to the xbox scene. I just installed my x2lite this past weekend. Now I know I need evolution x if I ever want to backup original games, but I guess I also need to network it somehow, which I can't do since I only have a dial up modem. My question is, if I get evolution x and install it on my Xbox, are there any advantages to it besides the ability to back up originals?

if u where going to put emu an roms in your hdd u can use the evox menu to launch them, or xbmp (xbox media player) u can use to see vcd, mpeg, mov, picture cd's, an other stuff , i n other words i do recomend puting evox on your xbox, but remember to back everything up before u start, there are a but load of tutorials in xbox-scene .

Thanks for the reply. By backing up, do you mean backing up the software already installed in the xbox?

also, you were saying about networking ur xbox and pc, all you need if a newtork card (Base10/100) and a cross-over cable, no need for the fast internet connection!!

Oh, and now I have evox on my XBox, seems to be running smoother when playing backup's and Imports!!!

Hi g00dbrand, when ftp-ing to the xbox, do you have to be connected to the internet then, or can I simply just connect the cable to the xbox and network card and use ftp that way? I guess I'm a little confused. All the tutorials I've seen for networking show the xbox connected to a hub connected to a network card and connected to a cable/dsl modem.

xbox without evox is like a pc without a operative system!

You don't need to connect through the internet. All you have to do is connect your xbox to your pc through either the hub or crossover cable.

You are not connecting to the internet, you are making a network connection between the PC & Xbox so that they can communicate.

I manage to ftp without internet connection, not exactly clued up on how or why, just seems to be able to do it by itself (if that makes sense).
I used FlashFXP to do this, I'd guess u must be using the FTP protocol attached to internet explorer, that would be the only way I could see the requirement of an internet connection. Mind you, the connection wouldn't be required there either, as you could setup as a connectionless web browser window, which would then show the xbox content and allow file transfer (theoretically).

Cheers All

here is the short and simple version:

1. You have a mochip.
2. Your modchip will allow u to play your dvdr backups.
thats it if you dont install evox.

Why add evox?
EvoX will allow you to access the files on your xbox hd. like backing up your saved games, applying patches, and adding apps to manage your xbox. it also lets you use your xbox hd to backup your games. you'll only have about 2 gigs of free space so if u want to store more of ur games on the hd, you need a bigger one.

Why dont u need internet access?
EvoX runs its own FTP server, which means whoever is connected o the xbox can access it via ftp. It does not need to be connected to the interent. its like connecting 2 xbox systems for system link play. you dont need to access the internet to get both xboxs to see each other.
