i read somewhere that im having probs booting games due to the drive can i buy and fit a new one to solve this prob

the is a website selling them, but they want about £90 for them!! At that price, they don't even guarentee which one you get!!!
I can't give the website here, but it's techno devices I think, search for that, and you will find it!!

i havent a clue i dont know how to tell apparantly there are 3 types 2 ok and a shitty on thats the 1 ive got

There are Samsung, Philips and Thompson. You want to try to get a Samsung one, as that's been reported to be most compatible with CD-Rs.

or you can just hook up a secondary normal PC DVD drive to run them.

Or you can buy better media. For Steven3367 I can help you id which dvd drive you have. Turn on the xbox and open the dvd tray. Each drive has a unique central pattern that let's you know which drive you have. 1. Philips (I have this one) Central Pattern=rectangle that goes into a wide circle. 2. Thomson Central Pattern=rectangle that comes down into a sem-circle (The same width as the rectangle). 3. Samsung easily identified by two circular holes outside central pattern. What media are you using cd-r, cd-rw or DVD+R/+RW and DVD-R/-RW?
