i suppose you could get put on a backlist but i very much doubt it, ISPs nowadays are just happy to get the money from a new customer i reckon! :D

I agree with bearded wonder its actually unlikey youll get banned these days unless you do something serious like hack into goverment computers or anything that belongs to a major company or you spread any viri that get out of control like bugbear or code red.

Basically as long as you dont get your isp a bad name they wont bother with complaints against you. They wont waist the time and effort to investigate unless its anyone with clout say the fbi or m$ or similar big company. For instance say you launched a denial of service against yahoo or hacked into the pentagon or if you spam to a big scale.

Well the ISP's are always in competition I doubt that the have a black list or something, like beardedwonder said they are always looking for new customers.

as AT&T/ComCast had just sent me an email letter stating that i'm distrubuting copyrighted materials on newsgroups!!! :D

and i reply back to them that i'm just testing out my upload speed... lol :)

yes because it is only the external ip addy from the router which is distributed to the internet, assuming the router is running on NAT which is very likely.

You're real IP is on your router which is what is exposed to the internet. Someone at AT@T can easily tell who you are from that.

Your router is a hardware firewall, its like a big apartment building with lots of different rooms, and one of those rooms is your computer....

I totally agree with everyones comments on hiding your IP address from your ISP with a router. However I believe that it might be harder to find another ISP (especially a broadband one) than some of the members have stated. Many providers are cracking down on users bandwidth since it is costing them money. I think that once you have been identified as a errrr.... pig(no offense intended, of course) that you might have a problem finding a new provider. If you do, I believe that you would be much more likely to be monitored than the average user.
