i took windows 95 off a computer, cause i reformatted the hard drive. there is a c, d, and e hard drive. a is a floppy, and f is a cd drive.
i tried the normal procedure to install windows, but it couldn't find the drivers for the cd drive. i got a disk with them. i stuck the floppy in, and restarted, then stuck the 95 cd in. it asked if i wanted to start with cdrom support or without. i typed number one for with cdrom. then it says starting windows, but all i got was a c prompt.
i did a dir windows, and it wasn't there.
i went to the help file, and i can open up the files that are on the floppy, and the ones on the cd. (so i know it's reading the cd)
is there a command i can type in to install windows?
from the a and c prompt, with and without the disks in, i have tried setup and setup.exe and also install and some others.
i am totally lost, what should i do now?
i don't have to, but i would like to have the c, d and e drives to be combined. do you think this is what's causing a problem?
also, the f drive is a cd drive, but i seem to have a g drive also, and when the cd is in, most files are in the f drive, but a couple are in g. is this normal?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

It looks as if your hard drive has been partitioned in to 3 if you want to combine the 3 partitions? have a look at this http://www.newlogic.co.uk/kbase/fdisk/page1.htm

also when you get the C prompt, change from the C to the F when in the F then type setup this should install windows.

The G drive is a virtual drive, so forget about that one. This is used to store all the stuff from the floppy disk to help install windows, once windows is installed this one goes.

1, boot up with floppy > with cd-rom support
2, at a:\ prompt type e:\setup : make sure win95 is in e:\ drive

NOTE when you boot with floppy it makes a temp drive nomally d: so your
first cd-drive is e: .

3, or at a:\ prompt type e: then press enter you should now be at e:\ prompt , put win95 cd in e: drive ( to make sure its in e: type dir & press enter it should show contents of win95 cd ) if it does type setup or setup.exe & the install should start .

I'll think you'll find that if he types E it wont work as he has said his hard drive is partitioned into 3.

jspr57 is spot on, just change the A prompt to F

A:\F:

or A:\cd F:\

F:\setup.exe

Hope you get sorted
