I like the SB cards, I'm using Altec Lansing 5.1 speakers though.
I'm pretty happy with them for $100.;)

I think its down to personal preference.

I've got onboard 6 channel audio which sounded OK but I also had a sonic fury 6 channel card lying around doing nothing. The thing about the onboard card is the accoustic effects were terrible as was the software design so I unistalled the software, disabled the chip and threw my sonic fury card into the PC.

The SF card's audio was so much clearer and brighter, I've got decent control software now with some great accoustic effects and I'm happy.

In theory the onboard should have been better but my ears tell me that high spec doesn't guarantee good audio quality.

Mind you, the sonic fury has the versajack which I can software control to be almost any kind of input/output!

Try the soundcard - you can always revert back to onboard if needs be!
