After installing MS office i can't open any of the office programmes. I get an error messages saying something like; Cannot find all of the libraries, make sure the path is corect, try opening it from where it was installed? Can't remember it exactly, but that's the jist of it. Also if I try to install office 2000, it starts to install then then hangs, after about half an hour of waiting for the blue line to go along to show that's it's been installed I abort the operation. It should only take a couple of minutes, so I think something's wrong & abort.
Also the keyboard on this ps is set up as English (US). I'm trying to change it to English (British). I won't let me do that either, so I'm wondering if the two things are connected.

Well installing Office2K on Win 95 ... is that even possible? hehe anyway, it would seem your links to the Office programs are invalid. Try going in through Win Explorer and seeking out the EXEs for each of the respective programs and see if they work from there. If so, easy enough to fix the links in the Start menu, etc.

On another note ... it's 2003 m8. Most new programs won't even run properly, if at all, on Win 95. Run out and get yourself a copy of Win 2K or XP and I promise you're computing life will be happier place. ;)

I know what you're saying, but it's not my pc, it's my girlfriends and she only really uses it for the net and a bit of word pro, so no spending hundreds on software I'm afraid. I tried opening them up from explorer but got the same message. Thanks for the help.

Un-install Office completely and delete the 'office' keys in registry (run regedit, and you'll find entries for office under local computer and current user in software, microsoft).

Then try your install again. Office 2000 will work on 95 by the way.

Except Office10 (Office XP), Office 2000 and earlier Office versions will run successfully on Windows 95. For running Office 97 on Win95, you'll need a minimum of 8MB RAM for each Office application that you run simultaneously. I don't have good memory to remember this. I just installed O97 on my cousin's old laptop last week. :)

Stevie, you may need to copy the O97 installation files to a folder on HD then run setup from there if space allows.

Thanks for your replies, I knew there was something I forgot, regedit won't start either, I get a similar sort of error message.

Sounds like you need to re-install your (sorry your girlfriend's) O/S.

Could you just elaborate on re-install please? Do I need the W95 disc? Cos She can't find her's, but have got mine, will that do, or does it have to be her one?
Thanks again.

Stevie, the my post above should read:

I mistyped it. :)

Also to re-install, how exactly would I go about that. I should be going there tomorrow.

boot the PC with a boot floppy, 95 or 98 will do

choose to boot with CD rom support

let the floppy finish

put the cd in the drive

at the A prompt change it to the CD drive (either D or E usually)

at the E (?) prompt type setup.exe

the cd should now run and install the OS

hopefully this will have reinstalled your windows 95 for you and fixd the faults you have in the registry and other areas by the sound of things.

Dont run the set up file whilst already in windows, some of the reg files are protected from change whilst in use.

sounds like an old PC, office 2000 pro is on 4 cd's, will this much fit onto the PC?

Thanks for that. The PC is about 5 years old but, it has loads of room on it. will the pc still have all it's settings after that, i.e. the dial up networking stuff and saved documents etc? Or will it all need to be put back on?

The PC should retain all the settings you currently have, it really depends on what parts of the OS are currently corrupted or damaged, if there replaced/rebuilt then the setting will need re-applying, shouldn't be a problem though, the bigger issue would be due to the limitations of 95 if you had to format the drive and reinstall win95 from fresh, you would also need all of the drivers for the hardware running. reinstalling as you plan to do, all the drivers are present, the saved documents will be unaffected.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated. I'll give that a try, if all fails, I've got W98 somewhere, I could put that on.

Ok, I've given up on it. I re-formatted, I've put ME on & guess what it did it again. The blue progress line stops about halfway, I get impatient after about 15 mins and cancel the installation. I don't remember it ever taking as long as that. Should I just wait an hour or so for it to install?
