-R is better than -RW typically simply b/c it is more likely to be compatible from what i have heard. However, my Apex 1100W reads both exactly the same ... np problems playing or differences in quality between them.

the thing is m8 i have seen that the datawrite dvd-rw are cheaper than the top dvd-r's and are better quality than the yelow top datarites and the bulkpaqs.
so really was wondering if it was cost effective to use the dvd-rw's instead

The only one that I have had success across the board with is DVD-R. DVD-RW hasn't worked in anything but my DVD burner. It didn't even work in a PC DVD-ROM drive that I tried. Provided you use DVD-R with a dark purple Ritek Dye you should have no difficulty.
