r5442 Mar 26, 2003, 08:02 PM I am running XP on my computer and I have a 60GB drive (C). Then I have a 120GB drive I installed where I put all my backed up music, games, and movies (all from originals of course). I want to reformat my C drive but will it do anything to my other drive.
UAPyro Mar 26, 2003, 08:13 PM just use your windows xp cd, go through setup, and when it asks you for where you want to install the os, say the c drive. it will say some stuff about there already being an operating system on there, just say continue, and then when it asks you want to do with the filing system or something like that, with options saying "format using ntfs, format using fat32, leave filing system intact" choose whichever one you use, if not sure, it will probably be ntfs.
ps2wiz Mar 26, 2003, 08:14 PM No.
r5442 Mar 26, 2003, 08:21 PM Sorry, but what is the filing system? And when I format, it won't touch my other drive or do I have to check some options so it doesn't touch my other drive?
UAPyro Mar 26, 2003, 08:28 PM no?
ps2wiz Mar 26, 2003, 08:36 PM I want to reformat my C drive but will it do anything to my other drive.
No.
What isn't there to understand?
UAPyro Mar 26, 2003, 08:39 PM filing system is fat, fat32, or ntfs (for windows)
there are others, but windows XP generally uses ntfs in all the cases where i worked on computers
when you do what i said, it shouldnt touch anything else. if you are paranoid, you could just disconnect the power to the other drive so that there is no chance whatso ever that it gets affected
Relic Mar 26, 2003, 08:39 PM its strange though!
it has worked bfore
but now after formatting bootdisc C(whit same OS so nothing diff.)
everything OK like bfore
only after install,reboot
theres my bootscreen C and D
bfore format there was np booting from 2 diff XP Pro's(1 Corp)!
after hitting bootdisc D
heres the exact error;
Windows could not start because of a computer disc hardware configuration problem.
Could not read from the selected bootdisc, check bootpath and disc hardware.
please check the windows documentation of hardware disc configuration and your hardware reference manual whit add info.
shoot me but whats wrong here? after format on C i didnt though D partition!
