Some interesting GameCube news is popping up where a discovery has been made in creating an .iSO image of a GameCube game onto a Mini DVD-R... and what it seems being able to boot it with the GameCube Freeloader disk!

This is the so-called 'Homemade' Tutorial for what you need:

Tutorial to Create God 'Homemade'

Tools:

MakeGCM.exe (found in makegcm_v1004_9-10-01.zip on the SDK disc of Nintendo)

physdemo.dlf (found in SDSG\demos\Dodger Demo)

A dsf file (contains the executable and certain data files, binary signed with dol)

Edit the dlf file with wordpad and change the file paths to the files you want to put on the GOD. I'd assume you'll also need to update the image offsets (hex numbers at the start of the lines). Leave the first two, last and second to last (??) lines in the dlf file.

Modify the second line of the dlf file with the dsf that you want to place on the GOD (the dsf file contains the executable and certain data files).

Open a DOS prompt, change to the directory with the dlf file and enter the following command:

code:-----------------------------------
makegcm filename.dlf image.iso
------------------------------------------

Where filename.dlf is the name of the modified dlf file. Burn the ISO file to a DVD with PrimoDVD or another program. Use mode Z of freeloader to load the disc, and make sure that you have it set to use the same region that you set for the DOL file.

IMO it would be best to try burning the Dodger Demo without changing anything first, before trying any custom discs. In that case just use this command:

code:-------------------------------------
makegcm physdemo.dlf image.iso
--------------------------------------------

You will need to have set up the directories according to the Dodger readme.txt file.

well, when somebody tries this, please share the results!!!! One other thing that would be a good idea, instead of using mini dvd-r (expensive like none other) use regular dvdr, and take the shell off the gamecube, that would (in theory) work as well

It's not fake:

It's been researched for quite some time.
Best of all, this doesn't need a modchip, just a swap. Sound familiar?

Mini-dvdr are like $2.50 each per 100. A small price to pay if this works. lol...I remember paying $2 each (after rebate) for 2x cd-r's in a 10 pack back in the day.

I wonder if regular dvd-r will work in the Q.

Anyway, shouldn't this be in the VGB forum??

Taking the shell off won't extend the laser's range. The laser will only know the size of a mini-dvd if you know what i mean...

how much information can a mini-dvd hold anyway? is it still 4.7gb?

It's not that the laser needs to read the full DVD-R's size, it just needs to read UP TO where a mini DVD-R would be. Why? Well, mini-DVD-R are expensive right now, and full size DVD-R aren't so bad. I am almost sure that somebody will come up with a replacement case for the GC, that allows full-sized discs to fit in, and read a full DVD-R as far as the same distance it is on a mini. In other words, nobody is expecting the WHOLE DVD-R to be read, they just want to put the equal amount of data on a DVD-R that is contained on a mini.

This Idea definately has potential!!! Has anybody made it work though?

yeah i dont't hibk full dvd-r would work since the gc laser only reaches the length of the mini gc discs. and it would be cheeper for mini dvd-r anyway coz as mwa423 said theyre cheaper alot chaeper. and mini dvd-r has 2.6gb storage i think. www.allmediaoutlet.com sells them. ! :D hope this works.
