I use feurio burner software but Nero has done it too.....When writing the leadout or sometimes leadin during a burn the computer freezes..Only during the Leadin/Lead out does this happen..Seems to happen more and more lately and I'm going nuts..Any ideas...I'm using Via chipset drivers and Windows xp BTW.....Feurio offers the following but I don't know how to correct it..Appreciate the input folks...

A fundamental problem of the IDE-bus is that the bus is not capable of "multi-tasking", i.e. if one device is busy handling a command, the bus is locked until the device has finished the command - even if no data is being transmitted!
In particular this means that the bus is locked while writing the leadin/leadout.
This can cause the following problems when a writer is connected to the IDE-bus with other devices:

- Writer is connected with a hard disc:
During the writing of the leadin, the IDE-bus - and therefore also the hard disc - is locked. If this hard disc is the system hard disc, the whole system is locked while writing the leadin!

I think it's basically saying that if your hard drive and CD ROM are on the same IDE cable this may cause the problems you're experiencing.

You could try putting them on different cables if that's possible, also check that DMA is enabled (Device Manager, ATA/ATAPI) and you also have XP's built-in Burning Service disabled (Control Panel, Admin Tools, Services).

Did you ever end up solving this issue? I have a new HP 630 Writer and the same thing occurs. For the first two weeks or so everything was fine, now it hangs on leadout.
