Hi there !

I got a DVD-writer recently and tried to backup some games. Unfortunately (lucky me...), when I tried to boot them on my ps2 using the double swap with a gameshark2 v2, all it does is spin a little and then go silent, leaving me with a frozen gameshark screen.

I'm using a Sony DRU500AX and burned the backups on a DVD-r using RecordNowDX (given with the writer). The game I'm trying to boot is Dynasty Warriors 4 (in case it's important) using Metal Gear Solid 2 as the original on a ver. 4 ps2 with a neo 2.2 chip (I think... I'm not sure what version of neo it is, it can play cd-r backups just fine with the simple swap, even those over 630 MB, but I absolutely have to hold reset 7 seconds approximately when the ps2 is in Standby mode to make the tray open during the bootup sequence).

I tried many ways to boot the dvd backup : all the ones listed on www.ps2docs.com and also all the ones listed here http://forums.psxforum.com/showthread.php?threadid=2041

None have made my dvd backup even try to run. I also tried with a backup of MVP Baseball 2003 unpatched, and it does exactly the same thing, which makes me think that maybe I need to patch DW4, but since I'm not sure I wanted to ask around first. I also tried running a dvd+r backup version of DW4 but to no avail.

I'm all out of ideas, anyone can help ?

Please, no one has a solution ? Or at least a small idea of what could be the problem ?

Swap discs are known to have trouble. There are a few other people who have posted that they have had trouble with DVD swaps. You do have the actual DVD swap disc right and you aren't trying to do this with a CD? I know it sounds like a dumb question but I have to ask to make sure we don't overlook a very simple problem. Also what DVD-R media are you using as cheap DVD-R discs can be tempermental with PS2 drives. I haven't actually burned that game before but I know that some games require a patch to get them to burn right. You might want to do a search over in the VGB forum as that tends to list problems for specific games over there. I hope this helps.

I got it to work !

The only thing not right is that I have a Gameshark2 version superior to 2.0, so I had to do another variant of the double swap which I haven't tried.

Thanks for the help anyways !

Glad to hear it. It's good to know that so we can pass it along to others who are having a similar problem.

Well, if you have a similar problem (neo 2.2 with gameshark2 v2), go to this thread to find different methods to boot a dvd-r. I used the second one.

Solved my problem anyways, but I had to dig pretty deep to find it.

There should be a place for listing all those booting methods, since not everyone has a messiah2.
