Well here's the story:
I want to install a program from a CD-R. The program setup and other program files are located in a directory on the root , and there is a sub-component (help files) that are located in a directory that is not inside the first directory, but on the root aside the first one. When that component is selected to install, a subdirectory inside is copied in the installation path of the program. Well, if I installl the program with that sub-component selected the installation will terminate with a 'file/folder not readable'. If I make an ISO copy on the HDD and install from there (with a virtual CDROM)then is the same error. But if I copy the directories directly on the HDD and install from there it will install without a glitch.
I exchanged that CD with another one... the same thing... then with another one .... the same thing... also this latest CD, before trying it on the PC I'm speaking about, I got with it on another PC with a DVD-ROM and there it installed without problems directly from CD
Someone told me that the DVD had a stronger laser and it passed through and that's why it installed it.
Also another one told me he had experienced the same problem with a CD, a program installation was crashing when installing from CD and succesfuly completed when copied to HDD and instaled from there.
The CD-ROMs used were a 5-year old BTC BCD 16X U3.0 and now a shiny new LG GCR-8520B 52X. I read a CD-ROM roundup article on another website and there it was that the strong point of this LG model was the readability from damaged CDs. However if there was some damage, why does it install from the HDD?? Weird... Tip: if I copy on the HDD only the first directory but not also it's brother containing that sub-component, it gives the same error; that's logical. But what about the other two cases, directly from CD or from ISO copy (virtual CD) ???
That would be the question...
