I have tried Sony DVD-RW and Philips DVD+RW media and they burn fine, but my Xbox can't read it. Can anyone tell me a - or + DVDRW media that my Xbox might be able to read? Thanks.

Memorex, Verbatim and Sony DVD+RW and DVD-RW work great on v1.0 and 1.1....I also have a Sony DRU500a.

I have v1.0, but no luck with any Sony media. I just tried a Sony DVD+RW. I haven't updated my firmware on my burner, but I can't think that is my problem. I am using DiscJuggler to burn.

It could be you just burning the game disc wrong. Try to burn a DVD movie and see if the xbox loads it(if you got way to play DVD i.e. Remote or DVD-X v2).

I have used some generic DVD-R and it works fine. I am just having problems with RW media.

Most XBOXs don't like RW media. Stick to quality DVD-R or DVD+R for lowest price and highest compatibility. What DVD drive do you have in your XBOX (Philips, Thomson, Samsung)? I have a Philips drive and I can't get -RW media to read at all.

Well some time or most of the time i boot off with RW disc is that i have to press eject twice. i.e. Put the RW disc in and let it spin and get an error message. then press eject and eject again(without turning OFF xbox) and second attempt it loads.

I think the drive is philip's. Redwolf I'll try your press eject twice and see if that works. I might just buy a bunch of different media and hope to find something that works.

I got DVD movies burnt on +RW and -RW that work fine in my v1.0....I havent tried them on the v1.1 yet. I have a Sony DRU-500a flashed with 2.0e bios and burn everything with RecordNow MAX.

rishardc: I've got 2 Phillips and 1 Thomson reading Memorex +RW, CD-R, and -RW so, yes, the xboxs can read most any disk, depending on what disk drive you have in the xbox and if you tamper with the pot or what not

Well the Pot-Tweak brings a whole different thing to the equation. Unless Kevin44 really knows what he is doing he shouldn't attempt it as he could fry his DVD Drive in his XBOX. Kerdyk you are right it does depend quite a bit on the ability of the XBOX DVD drive itself and if you do the Pot-tweak or not but I think it is kind of dumb to risk screwing up your DVD drive so that it can read more expensive RW media. Even if you make a few coasters with DVD-R it will still be quite a bit cheaper in the long run.

What is the Pot-Tweak? I have never heard of this.

It's where you crack open your drive and adjust the laser settings on your XBOX DVD Drive. As I posted earlier though unless you really know what you are doing I wouldn't recommend doing this as you could end up with a fried DVD drive if you don't do it just right. I have seen enough people who have screwed it up and have to spend $60-$70 to replace thier XBOX DVD drive to get it to work.

I had this issue with Imation brands of DVD-RW. What I did was grabbed the newest firmware verison on Sony's website, and got the newest version of Nero on Nero's website, and all has been fixed. Hope this helps.

I am not going to try the Pot-Tweak. I will just try some different brands of media and I'll upgrade my firmware ronorkis. Can anyone tell me if there are any online sites that sell media in singles? Most of the places I find only sell 25-200 packs. I would like to buy as many singles as possible and hope one works for my unit.

Redwolf nailed it, I usaully have to eject twice, and then it boots. I have the thomson drive, and also have a dru500a.

Redwolf methods works for 50% of the time which is a lot better than 0. I tried a few more brands, but nothing worked. I tried a few cheap CD-RW's and they work perfectly. What is the current firmware for the Sony?

Thanks for the link Mr Snatcher. I am on 2.0e. Any idea what brand of media you are using with the xbox?

I use Princo white top, Verbatim +r, and just tried Ritek. Hadnt had a problem with any of them. I guess my xbox isnt to picky.
