I got a friend of mine to get someone he knows to mod my v1.0 xbox. It aparently took him 4 attempts and went through a couple of chips (mmm I have masses of confidence in him now). Finally i got it back and it boots fine. I installed evox and and it says bios unknown so how do i find out what chip he installed, wether i can flash it to the latest bios (tried flashing but nothing happened). Does this mean i have to open up the box and physically look at the mod to see what one it is, if so what screw drivers will i need.
I hope it is upgradable cos when i press eject it resets the machine but my mates doesn't
P.s. when it boots up the screen says matrix inside at the bottom dunno if that is relevent to the chip or the bios code installed

Thanks for your help guys, I just don't trust the moron that put the chip in to touch it again.

if that is the case, i believe its the evox d6 eject fix BIOS. any other newer one would say Xecuter2 when it boots.

If it says "Matrix Inside" wouldn't that imply having a no solder Matrix chip. How long have you had your modded XBOX? The Matrix chip can have the HD upgrade but don't get excited just yet. Let us know how long you have had your modded XBOX for.

Had it modded for 4 days however i bought a torx screwdriver and opened up my xbox and found 10 wires on top of my xbox m'board but to my horror no chip attached ( as i said the twat that installed it had some trouble). So i thought he had flashed the TSOP but no. After unscrewing the motherboard (only 2 screws holding the bloody thing down - yea where are the rest of my screws!!!)Underneath I found a bunch of wires going into a peice of yellow electrical tape. I peeled the tape back and found chip connected to approx 29 wires. the number on the pcb (of the mod) is 910512A. I'll post a pic if this info isn't good enough but never posted a pic before and not sure how i do it

Thanks again guys, sorry to b a pain.

Oh man you have the old enigma chip if it's 29 wires (unless it's a cheap-mod or homebrew) either way no you can't update the HD with this chip. That sucks about the shoddy install. I sometimes question if it was worth it to spend $150(price of chip and shipping included) to ship mine off to a trusted installer but after getting it back and having absolutely no trouble with it, I think it was well worth the additional cost. My hands are just too shakey to solder.

Oh well thought as much. Cheers for the reply. On the + side the UK price dropped today to 129 so at least i can get a new one cheap enough and flog my one to someone who doesn't want a HDD in it.
