Frostbite Apr 08, 2003, 08:37 PM Hey, Lemme tell you a story and then u find the missing piece at the end...
I'm sick of wasting my 4.7GB DVD-R discs on dinky Xbox games that are only around 800MB to 2GB so I decided to squeeze as many as I could onto one disc. I tried what some guy said about putting EvoX on the disc and having that EvoX program read the different .xbe files in thier specific folders but I pulled enough hair out from that. I got Gameselctor .5 Alpha but don't know what to do with it , and I can't find X-Launcher .7 because all the links are dead. So, I made this data disc (using Prassi on Memorex DVD-RW's) with 6 folders, WolfensteinDemo, ATV2, Sims, Hunter_Demo and so on. My EvoX dash boots up and reads it as "unknown" (which is fine) and so I go in and open "Xbox File Explorer" and search my D: Drive and pick a folder, find the .xbe file and push the A button. Now, it should load but instead my Xbox reboots and I'm like what the heck BUT!!! I tried my "Hunter:The Reckoning" file (application.xbe) pushed the A button and BAM I was playing it. But why does only 1 of 6 .xbe files work? What's up with that? Anyone know a more efficient way then this generic one? Thnx everyone...:tup:
dcsurfer Apr 08, 2003, 10:32 PM i ever had any luck using the xdemo compilations... i always use evox front end... it is just a stripped down version of evo 2.5... heres an excert of what the ini file reads:
[Menu]
Section "Root"
{
sortstart
autoadditem "d:\games"
sortend
}
}
}
just make your root section read like he one above, make a games (where you will place the game files) directory in your root as well as evo dash (to be named default.xbe) and the skin folder. then just use gdfimage to build the iso... works like a charm every time. if you need help, just drop me a line.
jab420 Apr 08, 2003, 11:31 PM just u the guide from xbox scene
Frostbite Apr 09, 2003, 11:28 AM I tried the Xbox scene tutorial and I followed it precisely but still no luck! The disc will look like it is going to boot but ends up freezing.. For my Xbox, I have the red Xbox logo color mod 2.5 with slayer's evox installed and when it loads a game correctly, it says in white "Microsoft" under the red logo and it should boot up like everything else but instead it just stays at that screen forever and my Xbox does nothing. So I don't know, it sees it as a game and everything but is the .xbe file wrong or is something missing? I am going to try it again to double check in case I went to fast or misread something...
jab420 Apr 09, 2003, 01:29 PM just made one with state of emergency, capcom vs snk2, and turok using the how to from xbox scene. are u using cpxmenux because this is what builds the menu. it is from the demos of xboxes. the games are limited to 4.3 gigs
jab420
ps use a dvd-rw first and use primodvd burn as data disk never use iso programs
tainty1 Apr 09, 2003, 05:06 PM I've burned 40-50 using cpxmenu, although it took me a couple games to get everything perfect. I still forget small things from time to time, but I've saved at least 100 discs using the method.
Frostbite Apr 09, 2003, 07:48 PM Yes, of course I have cpXmenuX, it says to get it in the tutorial and I am
using Memorex DVD-RW's at 1x with PRassi using the data disc format. I
followed the tutorial but I dunno, it is prolly something little I am
missing. At least I know it is me and not the tutorial.. My games equal
3.9GB so I'm under the 4.3GB limit. I think my problem lies somewhere in the folders of the "iso." I was a bit confused as to which folders go where and such. I made the config fine I believe. I want to know why is freezes when it boots up. Also, maybe I am doing one of those simple or beginner errors like some of you said that you did when you first tried and still sometimes forget.. Can you share them with me to maybe shed light on my problem? Thanks.
redwolf Apr 09, 2003, 08:02 PM I used to use complex xdemo but had lots of problems, If i put say, 4 games on the disc then 1 of the game wouldn't load, freez up error, and its bit complicated to use. But now i use MediaXmenu which is really easy and had no problem since, and when you get used to it you can create nice looking menus as well. Also don't use any prassi or recordNOW to make your DVD, though xbox can read the data but not all the times as to they do not make TRUE xbox' UDF format. Use xbox ISO makers such as xISO, SimpleX etc. And always test them on RW disc first.
DropKick Apr 10, 2003, 07:40 AM Make sure that the xbox games are patched if they have the new media flag position (or your running one of the new bios which support this).
When creating my multi's I used menuX (putting the games in the iso dir, changing config file & running .bat), created the ISO using xISO then burnt the iso with either nero or primoDVD.

I've been using cpxmenux and have only made one coaster, that had to do with xISO screwing things up, using the better iso imager fixed this.
How do I do it?
I extract the archive into a directory (say D:\menu) and place all my game directories under the /iso directory, then I edit the config file using the following format
TITLE=c64 Emu
INFO=C64 Emulator
GFX=c64.png
DIR=commodore
TITLE=Atari Emu
INFO=Atari Emulator
GFX=atari.png
DIR=atari
I put a blank line between each item
I use photoshop to grab a screenshot and place it in the d:\menu\iso\MenuX\sshot directory (in this example d:\menu\iso\MenuX\sshot\c64.png). I resize it to 260x195 before saving it as PNG.
I always use lower case names for directories, don't know if that makes a difference or not but I do..
I always check the game works off the hard drive first, if it doesn't then it won't work on the menu cd, then I ftp it back into the directory I'm about to use (in the above example would have the emulator in d:\menu\iso\commodore)
Finally (and most importantly) run the batch file!!
d:\menu\MenuX-xdi.bat
When it's all done, use your favorite iso making program to iso up the directory:
<iso_program> d:\menu\iso myiso.iso
Burn this with something like Nero. Works with every media I try (currently TDK DVD-R)
Hope this helps,
Tim
hyundai Apr 14, 2003, 01:27 PM i like complex menu also.
yet to try the other methods.
Frostbite Apr 15, 2003, 07:27 PM Hey ~ Yea, I got it to work with complex menu but I didn't get the .png's working? I have Photoshop 7.0, where do I go to resize my picture to 260x195? Also, even though I got it to boot up, now I'm stuck elsewhere! When I try to play ATV offroad Fury 2 or whatever that ATV Xbox game is called, it gets to the "please wait" screen and then goes back to the Xmenu screen, I can't get it to work? ALSO, The Sims won't work either, instead of going back to the menu screen, it goes back to my EvoX dashboard, what's up with that? Apex and House of the dead 3, the other 2 games I have on there, WORK GREAT! It's just the other 2.. hmm? Help me out here please and thanks for every1 posting here and helping me out.
Frostbite Apr 15, 2003, 11:10 PM Hey, I used a diff. ISO maker called SimpleXISO instead of my usual XISOmaker. It gave me pics on the menu and made ATV2 work, too! I still have the same problem with the Sims, however, it won't start the game. this game doesn't need a patch or anything does it? Those EA games and the hard times they give people... grrrr. Anbody else have or had trouble with the Sims?
Uranus Apr 16, 2003, 12:35 PM The sims doesn't need a patch, i have it on a multi with 3 other games.
i don't bother with the pics on menux myself. But to get all your multis working, look for a prog called gdfimage. That's the iso maker all the groups use to make the iso's. since using this all my multi's have worked 100%. if you burn them as a data disc all the files are in the wrong order, that's why so many people have trouble with games not loading.
blangoman Apr 18, 2003, 08:24 AM hi lads, quick Q.
do you iso up the 'iso' folder only or the whole folder which includes the iso, skins , and the .bat file etc??
cheers as i am fed up of making coasters
Uranus Apr 18, 2003, 11:53 AM Just the iso folder mate...
Frostbite Apr 18, 2003, 03:16 PM Uranus, I did have to patch the sims with a hex editor to get it to work. It's probably because of my BIOS...
As for my first question on this thread I posted, it turns out that the xiso maker I was using was messing up, like it couldn't iso the menu stuff or something... I really don't know, but I use a different xiso maker now and I have created 4 multigame discs using the complex menu successfully. Thnx every1 for the posts & help. :tup:
blangoman Apr 19, 2003, 03:30 PM arrghh...:mad: im sure im doin this right. i followed the tutorial and ive got many coasters! the disc only loads up to the microsoft logo at the beginning of the game then freezes.
ive burnt it using primo and recordnow using data disc methods.
under the ISO folder i have
menux dir
4 games dirs
and 2 xbe.files.
i cannot seem to find the problem. ???
Anyone got some ideas
Frostbite Apr 20, 2003, 01:08 AM As I said in my previous post, I used different Xiso maker to do the trick. I got to that screen and nothing happened. I used Xiso maker to burn the first few flops then I switched to SimpleXiso .3 and somehow it booted correctly. For me, it was my ISO maker, you should try it. Try booting and rebooting a few times to see if your Xbox is just having trouble reading it.. Also, do you have Evox dash installed?
Frostbite Apr 20, 2003, 01:12 AM Oh! I forgot to say! Don't use the data disc format. Xiso the ISO folder and burn the image using Prassi or Recordnow MAX, i use Prassi and it works nice. this is how i have been making my multi disc games and they boot fast on the first try, too. Let me know how it goes..
blangoman Apr 21, 2003, 10:19 AM still no luck i used simplex to make the iso and burnt it using primo. When i use just one game iso to the disk it works perfectly. But the multigame boots like once in 30 tries or sumthing so it does work occasionly, once the multi screen came up without the pics and without a background all i could see was the games and then, another time it worked fine but the loading times were ridiculously long. not sure what is going on. i might download another copy of complex and start from stratch. Maybe using another iso program.
