maseline_98 Apr 09, 2003, 04:00 PM I've been waiting for 2 months now to get a new video card. I'm looking at the Geforce 4 ti4600 8X card, but I don't know what manufacturer to buy from.
So far I've looked into:
MSI
ASUS
PNY
eVGA
I've compared them and they seem rather similar. I know ASUS is a great company and make great MBs, but they don't seen to have VIVO(video-in, video-out)functionality. Should this sway me to a MSI card or any of the others?
Thanks for looking in and giving me your input
PS is the Geforce FX 5200 garbage? It's only around $100
BigStan Apr 09, 2003, 04:07 PM Of the ones youve mentioned the asus would be the best bet in my opinion, though if you've read other threads in which Ive posted, I would recommend a radeon 9500 pro over a gf4 of any sorts, and Im a gf4 owner!
Ignore the fx5200.
ps2wiz Apr 09, 2003, 04:52 PM I Got a whole different opinion then you, don't go with ati...
I"ll recomended a Gainward/Cardexprt, or a Leadtech
BigStan Apr 09, 2003, 06:17 PM Argh, lol, whatever you do dont get a gainward, we'll compromise if we agree on that. IMO radeons have a lot more going for them. And I expect the card in question is a 4800 8x agp.
I just think with optimised anti-aliasing, power supply, raw performance, opengl compatibility, the rads are better? Id like to hear the argument for the gf4. I like mine dont get me wrong.

aaronjon Apr 10, 2003, 06:28 AM if i may,
i was an ATI user of the 64mb radeon vivo, and through all of my time with it ~ 18 mths. it was an absolute nightmare, and that was on a good day,
for the last 4 mths. i`ve had the ti4600 vivo from leadtek with not an iota of trouble, i dont do a lot of capturing so cant coment on that side as an expert, but it will handle generals full on with a mighty army with hardly a blip, and thats what we all want.
i hear ATI have a new driver system with the 8/9000 range, but i`m not having any of that, i`ve had my fill for this lifetime.
btw, i was tempted to get the 9700 A-in-W beast, but once bit twice shy.
jeepers94 Apr 10, 2003, 01:00 PM The Gainward Golden Sample is the BEST! The best value is the MSI.It has a great software bundle. As for PNY,they do offer a lifetime warranty, but their cards suck! Also be aware, the 8x agp version of the 4600 usually is called the 4800.Make sure it is NOT the 4800SE,as this is the 8x 4400 card.
As I have pointed out about the ATI 95-9700 cards, they are very flakie! I have the 9700 pro and a GW.4600.The Gainward 4600 is MUCH more stable!

BigStan Apr 19, 2003, 09:22 AM I think its time to bite the bullet and make a purchase. Im not too sure what you are hoping for people to reply with. You can try scouting for reviews, but at the end of the day its now your choice.
