So whats the problem? It works on yours but doesnt work on theirs? Are all the pc specs up to job? In the gfx department, I expect splintercell to be graphics hungry. Could try downloading the patch again, maybe from a different site.

Splinter Cell is a VERY demanding game. I have a Radeon 8500 gfx card, and 512 mb ddr ram, an Athlon XP1800 and I still get the odd twitch and lock up when playing it. I would have thought that 256mb sdram and a Gforce 2 card would struggle a lot with Splinter Cell.

Have a look at the Splinter Cell Forum.
There are lots of problems with this game.

I have a 32 mb card, does anyone know if thats the reason it crashes straight after the first screen.

I don't think 32mb will be sufficient enough to play splinter cell. As stated before, it is a very demanding game. I had to play with medium details settings with an athlon 1.33GHz, 384mb ddr, and geforce 3 ti200 64mb. If i set it to high, then i will ocassionally see slow frame rates.
