freakit Apr 09, 2003, 06:16 PM i am using winxp pro. i delete the " links " folder in my favorites. but the damn thing keeps coming back. how do i get rid of it for good? thanks!!!!!!! zedy Apr 09, 2003, 09:52 PM I usually go to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Favorites, right mouse click the Links folder and set its attribute to Hidden. Then I delete the entry for Links in the drop down menu for favourites when in Internet Explorer. That usually does the trick. freakit Apr 09, 2003, 09:55 PM ok. thanks. i'll give it a shot. MasterMind Apr 10, 2003, 01:02 AM Right click can be done while viewing your Favorites either in IE or Win Explorer followed by selecting Properties from the context menu. No need to navigate through Win Explorer. freakit Jun 11, 2003, 04:15 PM the above process worked. but i had to reinstall XP when i changed my motherboard. i tried to above process and it doesn't work. the damn folder keeps coming back. i changed it to hidden then clicked apply then OK. its keeps coming back. i did this about 10 times. any other ways to get rid of it? or should i just deal with it. i know its not a big deal, but i like to keep everything neat and clean. i hate seeing stuff i don't use. MasterMind Jun 12, 2003, 02:48 AM This is the only wany to hide Links from Favorites. Even if you delete the folder. XP will create it again on next boot. nightheart Jun 12, 2003, 07:05 AM you can change the registry to get rid of the links folder. remember to back up the registry before changing anything......... copied from another forum: 1. Start regedit, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar 2. Locate the string "LinksFolderName", right click on it and select modify and set the value to a blank string. 3. Exit regedit 4. Now delete the Links folder. It shouldn't come back after that............ just my 2 cents............... |
