I tried to follow a few guides from dvdrhelp but the links were dead, I currently have Instantcopy & DVDshrink, can anyone help me out or give me a pointer to a guide so I can back up a dual layer disc to 1 DVD-R.

ok m8 use dvd shrink , put your dvd you want to back up in the dvd rom drive, in shrink make shure its on dvd drive and not files . then select from dropdown drive with disc in , also target size should be dvd 5 (4.7) click next

then click re-encode then click next
shrink the analysis the disc , giveing differint levels of encode pick the one wich is closest to 4.38 gig under not above.
(with a bit more confidence you will be able to go into customize settings)
then click next
pck your target region for uk you need region 2 , pick a destination folder on your hard drive . i have one already labled VIDEO_TS then click next and watch it go
to burn use say nero on dvd iso drag your folder with film in which has to be called VIDEO_TS you also need a folder in called AUDIO_TS but this needs to be empty
just press burn and your done

Step 1: Ripping The DVD to your hard drive.
a. Load DVD Decrypter with DVD in drive
b. Change the MODE in DVD Decrypter to ISO - READ.
c. Select a destination directory and decrypt (green button on bottom). (Don't worry about CSS copyprotection, region codes or Macrovision, it will be removed by default.)

Step 2: Mounting the ISO to a drive
a. Load Daemon tools
b. Right click the Daemon tools icon in your taskbar. Select mount ISO
c. It will ask you to select a file, select the ISO you just created with DVD Decrypter
(NOTE: This will make a new DRIVE LETTER for the DVD you just copied. It treats the contents of the ISO as an actual drive/disk on your system. You should take your actual DVD out of the dvd-r drive so you aren't confused when authoring from this new drive).

Step 3: Re-encoding with Pinnacle Instant Copy v7.0
a. Load Pinnacle Instant Copy
b. Select your mounted virtual drive as your source, and your DVD-R drive as your destination
c. Click DETAILS at the bottom
d. Select the DVD tab
e. Select Automatic resize as the copy method
f. Select DVD as the preferred destination
g. Make sure you have a fresh unused DVD-R in your drive and press start.
h. Wait until completed.

Step 4: Dismounting and File deletion
a. Dismount the drive from Daemon tools by selecting DISMOUNT ALL DRIVES
b. Delete the ISO from you hard drive. You don't need it anymore.
