Have you tried using the program DVD X COPY? It won't give you all of the afore mentioned ripping options but provided that the movie will fit onto a single disc it will work just fine. Also have you tried doing the same process I mentioned with DVD2ONE? When was your Philips DVD player manufactered? My GF works at a local video store and she said that last year a number of people were having trouble with Philips DVD Players not working (2002 models) with Original movie discs.

its my mates,,its about 2 and a half years old,,

the ones i do, work on other dvd players,,i think its how these new programs author the files,,i got one technical answer,,,that theres either something left in or out,,in the streams as their
being processed,,,

i havnt tried dvd-x copy, thoughts of using two discs at a go,,,

do you know what difference,in record max,,
leaving tao open or closed,,,as both will work on my dvd player,,,,

If the discs work on other DVD players then it probably is the media and has nothing to do with how you are burning it (makes sense that this Philips would be picky). What media are you using?

im using datasafe grey tops,,ive given some of thsese to him, with back ups i bought,,and these
work perfect,,,but my own fail,,

tried every way with a know working one,,and
it still worked after,,
i still think its down to the vob files...theres something there it doesnt like or missing,,,would cinema craft encoder give better compatability,,
i used to use it,,but i had problem with record max now using it,,,
