This is not with a backup--I'm using the original cd's. My problem is that it freezes whenever I try to load it up. It used to work fine. I think the problem started when I installed total recorder. So I uninstalled it and the problem remains. I thought maybe if I updated the audio drivers (Avance AC'97 on-board audio--I know, not the best choice) this would help, but after a headache doing this (which was caused by me doing something stupid) there's still no improvement. I've tried the cd in my burner and dvd drive, with the same issue.
When I have the audio device set as Avance, all of the games would play fine, but any game that required a cd to play would not have any audio (including AvP2), but were still playable. I changed the device to "game compatible" and now all the games, even those that require a cd, play with the audio--except AvP2, which after a few sec's of extremely garbled audio, freezes and won't load at all.
The only other changes I've made to my machine at about the same time other than installing and uninstalling total recorder and updating my drivers, was switching the master and slave settings, so my dvd drive is the primary slave, and the burner is the secondary master.
I've been troubleshooting this for a few days with no luck--any ideas on possible solutions?
